Very unpro to stop playing during the game letting your team down, unless of course you are Eric Cantona at Selhurst Park.

Waste of time throwing the book at him, it's hardly as if he is going to read it.

(Apologises in advance for the wrath of NSC about to descend, and also to Charlie for whom I have total respect, but it's too good an opportunity to miss for a smartarse one liner).

Last night on the phone in lots of people were saying Charlie should take a look in the mirror when he got home to see if he likes what he sees. No change there then.

In the heat of the moment though. How many people cvan honestly say they've never done anything stupid under provacation.

I for one certainly can't.

I'm sorry Charlie but after you stopped playing to respond to a fan chucking a bit of abuse at your play was totally unproffesional. I hope McGhee drops a fine on you, or at least some extra work in the community.

Lost a bit of respect for you yesterday!

Yeah cos being abused by your own fans whilst you are playing really helps he situation doesn it

He was pony yesterday - but didn't deserve the treatment he got from his own fans!

I agree whole heartedly with Race here. Why would anybody try when his own fans are slagging him off ? Would you bother if you were critisized at your work ?

Every team no matter how succesful has to have a scape goat for the Boo boys.

I remeber watching an England game on TV once. And the england fans for the whole game gave Rob Lee and right earful "Rob lee take sit up the arse" for the whole game now that is abuse.

Mt dad was watching it with me and he kept asking what they were chanting - most amusing, pretended i didn't know :lolol:

Surely players are able to rise above one fan's criticism? Having to hear fan's opinions, both good and bad, is part of the job. I totally agree that abusing your own player is a waste of time and energy, but you'll always get someone having a go. Players shouldn't rise to it as that just makes things a whole lot worse.

I was too busy booing Huckerby to have a go at Charlie.

I agree abusing your own players doesn't help at all and probably contributes towards breaking their concentration even more.

That maybe. Some fans seem to think that shouting abuse is going to make some sort of difference, when all it does is prove negative and I bet whoever it was who doing the abusing wouldnt actually have the balls to go up to him after the game and say it to his face!

Any fan who abuses their own players DURING the game is a plank, end of. As a fan you should do your best to help the team win. If my students abused me during class it would not make me work harder or try to teach better, I would just try to do the bare minimum for them and seek another job.

It's one thing to sigh and groan, another to call the players, we should be saving that for the opposition.

With our backs to the wall it's our duty to make a positive contribution, not consoilidate our reputation of being the Spurs of the South coast and turning on the team as quick as poss.

It is part and parcel of being a footballer that everything they do is going to be scrutinised and they are going to get abuse from home and away fans.

They should be wise and experienced enough to rise above it.

Darren Huckerby was getting horrendous amounts of abuse yesterday but he ignored it and got on with his job - and had a good game.

I really don't think Charlie Oatway will be particularly bothered that a few fans are giving him a hard time. I'm sure he knows that he is probably punching above his weight at this level and it is credit to him that he is still being picked for the team.

We all know when we are having a shit day at work, having some tosser who is incapable of doing it to the same standard calling you is another matter.

Everyone knows Charlie is struggling at this level, he was not exactly a first choice in the division below, BUT he gives his best and so should we.

It was more fun abusing Huckerby anyway, and he didn't exactly ignore it when he signalled the score to the South stand with a big smirk on his face.
