Agree that it's just attention-seeking.

I didn't lose my virginity until I was 18 and you didn't hear me moan about it. Mind you, that was because I spent all my time in my bedroom wanking.

Yup, the only way to get respect for your own beliefs is by respecting those of others...the only way to achieve that is by learning about them, if that means visiting a mosque, temple or synagogue then so be it.

Anyway, if that girl wants to remain chaste rather than chased then all she has to do is dress modestly and politely rebuff any over amorous advances...it doesn't take a ring to achieve that.

I'm interested in how he is making money. Is he a jeweller?

By selling them for more than he is buying them for, quite clearly.

Quite clearly? I do know of some Christian girls who chose to do this but bought their rings in the local jewellers. I haven't heard of any one church or organisation selling them.

Which is precisely why I am waiting to be told as I don't understand the link with the money made earlier.

Theres not just one, theres multiple ones, I assumed we were refering to the parents of the girl who was suing. As goes the jewelers, they're doing the same thing - making money off it.

And as its a trademarked design, its all coming back to one source who are, amazingly, making money off it!

That said, its amazingly hard to convince some Catholics here that JJ Lalor don't print misselettes and donation envelopes out of the goodness of their hearts, but for pure profit, just as they print bookie slips...

What trademark design? As I said I do know of a couple of Christian girls who chose to do this but as one of them has now been married for 5 years and has two children, that tells you how long this 'fad' has been around. They just chose to wear a ring on their left hand in the same way some Christians would wear a cross.

"The Silver Ring Thing" is the American fad, which has a trademarked design for a specific ring, and is what this court case was over. Some people may use other rings, but there is a money making venture at the core of this.

There aren't any in Wesley Owen or our church shop. It does seem strange to spend thousands in legal fees to make a bit of profit on a silver ring.

OK so what about all jewellers who sell a cross, do they do this not for profit ?

I'm sure they do.
I haven't heard of any 'trademark' design for a ring.

I just mentioned one above, which the parents of the girl who sued are the UK distributors for!
Oh. They're not very good at distributing then are they?

How are they making money?

http://www.silverringthing.org.uk/shop.asp
And by running and licensing the courses that are "compulsory" to get the first silver ring.

And of course the company information:

SILVER RING THING (UK) LTD
23 HAZEL CLOSE, SOUTHWATER
HORSHAM
WEST SUSSEX
RH13 9GN

Company No. 05973106

Date of Incorporation : 20/10/2006

Executive Directors:
Andy Robinson - Managing Director
Heather Playfoot - Company Secretary
Stuart Sutcliffe - Director

Non-Executive Director - Denny Pattyn

Oh look - the name "Playfoot" comes up. The same name as the girl in court.

Try digging guys (and gals) - this is a media whore in action, whether she keeps her panties on or not.
