people can claim disability if they are fat ? is that a joke ?

No joke it's a reality and they very often get the full DLA payment that gives them access to a mobility car, The sad thing is there's people out there who are disabled by illnesses who often get turned down or recieve just the minimal payment.

I realise there are medical conditions that cause people to gain weight and then unable to shift it but to be given handouts because they like a fish supper is bloody ludicrous, the ability to lose weight would suggest that her condition is not infact a valid claim for disability and she should basicly f*** off.

Im still kinda waiting for the youve been had post here but this country never fails to amaze

A few years back I recall going to a couple of Weight Watchers meetings and was amazed to find a few of the participants complaining that they'd failed to lose any weight that week, or were struggling to keep it off and couldn't understand why. To be fair, the people who go to them at least appear to have made the decision to actually get off their arses and do something about their condition, unlike the likes of the beach-ball in this story, but still, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out why your weight isn't dropping, does it?

To lose weight, you need to eat less fat and exercise more. No amount of TV advertising, social benefits, miracle diet pills or whatever will ever change this. If you're overweight it's because you are consuming more calories than you're burning off therefore the only person who has responsibility for that is you.

People like this woman lack the motivation, willpower and (ironically) guts to do anything about their situation, and then have the nerve to complain that the state won't rescue them from their self-imposed predicament. Because they're too lazy to put any effort into doing anything about it, and want the easy way out. Ridiculous.

The land of chocolate
Assuming this story is real, I think this woman has been incredibly naïve to allow the Argus to do a story on her. Why did she allow herself to be photographed with a huge slab of chocolate and crisps? I wonder if the reporter brought those?

I think you're all being very unfair. Just like some people like pasta, and some people don't, some people like red meat and some people don't, some people like vegetables and some people don't. This poor young lady just happens to like junk food. Its all a matter of choice, and the fact that she finds herself addicted to crisps and chocolate is hardly her fault. Its genetic, its in her DNA. An unfortunate side-effect of this is that it makes people put on weight, but as long as she's happy in herself, surely thats the main thing ? For her to deprive herself of junk food would amount to an abuse of her Human Rights. And anyway, maybe she just doesn't have the TIME to prepare what we would call "healthy" meals for herself.

You can get some tremendous 2-for-1 offers on multipacks of crisps at supermarkets. Do you see those kind of offers for fresh fruit or salad ? No.
I rest my case.

Edna, what the hell were you doing at WW?

If you felt the need to go, what does that say about the rest of us? (thinks, where's fatty smiley?)

I can't tell if you're being serious or not...

Edit: Seeing your response in the mother of 14 thread, I'm thinking the latter. Kudos to you, good sir.

With that emotional and inspiring piece, you have truly changed my views on the subject *wipes tear from eye*

Perhaps we could start a charity for the likes of this lady. We just can't sit here and watch them waste away. Your donations are vital, people! See how far your money can go! Just £1.44 buys a 225g bag of Doritos Hint of Lime to feed a starving obese sponger for an hour. Just £2.38 buys a Goodfellas Deeply Delicious Spicy Chicken Sizzler 412g pizza to help her stave off the hunger pangs until lunchtime. While your gift of only £5.38 will buy a triple pack of McVities Jaffa Cakes and four 275ml bottles of orange flavoured Bacardi Breezers, to ease the pain of this lady's tortured existence.

Bob Geldof would want you to help. Call 0845 2FAT 2FAT and help change the lives of the chronically obese today.

Indeed. And lead us straight into temptation, and deliver us more donuts, for thine is the Magnum, the Snickers and the Twiglets, for ever and ever, amen.

Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.
Proverbs 31:6,7

Even Jesus thinks we should help

Proverbs is OT - nothing to do with Jesus.

He did provide the wine for a piss-up though
