[Albion] "This is somewhat of a transition season..."

You're probably right, but my point stands......you don't call your gullible rube a gullible rube, because you want to fleece him again. A bit too slick. A measured pause would suit Barber well.
I thought he was saying it in jest – no issue with it from me at all.

I know what you're saying, but it's worth pointing out that Chelsea ended up paying WAY over the odds – with no pressure from the Albion – for Caicedo, purely so that they could get him ahead of Liverpool. I wouldn't call that fleecing, more like the recipients of a club who (and this isn't exclusive to Brighton's dealings with them) are more than happy to pay arguably too much money for players, just so that they can get the players.

Think I'll save judgement on that stance until I see who leaves in the summer. If Pedro and Baleba go it'll be another transition season. If they stay and we build on the work this season then great.
Possibly, but not to the same extent. If Pedro goes, his role will be filled by Georginio. If Baleba goes, then there are plenty of midfielders here who can do a job (or we reinvest to maybe buy a more established player. That's the whole point of the big spend in the summer and it being about thinking more longer term.

But then, I'm very much a 'one game at a time' fan. This season has shown that for every heavy defeat or frustrating draw, there's a memorable win just around the corner. I'm just enjoying the ride, transitional or not!

Less worried about Pedro but you want to have your best players still here post transition.

Baleba can't be replaced by anyone in the squad. I can guarantee we won't be buying an established player of equal or even similar ability that has his profile. That would cost 60mil plus.

There have been a few great wins but this season feels like more a missed opportunity to me. Transitional squad with new inexperienced manger. Either or please, not both.

It's funny, because people said that about Caicedo. And Bissouma before him.

Barber saying what anyone with a brain in their head could see already.

Sure the "MUST HAVE SUCCESS NOW" brigade won't agree though. It's really odd how the guy who spends the £200 million doesn't expect it to work immediately, but the people who pay £50 a month to watch it do. I wonder who is more likely to be right. Tough one.

Apparently not to many on here. They just saw the big number in the summer and don't bother to consider what that was actually spent on.
I get this. But it seems to odd to expect less in the season we've spent loads of money rather than the ones are best players were sold and/or the management were poached after 5 games

As the £200 million figure is quoted ad nauseam, my apologies for resurrecting and updating an earlier post
No proper preseason together due to the Euros, late signings etc - ffs we spent £200 million
We sold Pascal, WBG and Undav and then Buonanotte and Barco went on ”needless” loans - ffs we spent £200 million
We let arguably our best player of our Premier League era join his boyhood club
Joao Pedro, Dunk, Jan Paul, Welbeck, Webster, March etc from last years squad all injured at some stage contributing to us leading the table on player/days lost to injury.- ffs we spent £200 million!
As well as Estupinian, Hinshelwood,Igor
Wieffer, Gruda, O’Riley, Minteh, Kadioglu - all 5 of the 6 new arrivals injured at some stage already and any team would take time to integrate new signings with a new manager - ffs we spent £200 million!!

We didn't actually spend £200 million on this season's squad - we spent £199 million less £24 million for Osman and Yalcouye who went straight out on loan, so we spent £175 million but recouped £47 million on sales, giving a nett spend of £128 million - FFS WE SPENT £200 MILLION !!!
Barber was asking for some patience to take some heat off Fab from fans who don't get it.

Seemingly not to those who scream for Hurzeler to be sacked each time the team hits a bump in the road.

Also, I'm not sure I've heard/read a senior club official acknowledge it either.
This. To not bash some of the more reactionary fans too hard on this, the club (or Bloom at least) have spent most of the season stating that Europe is the target and have built that idea as core to this season. It's great how ambitious he is, and we are as a club thanks to him, but maybe he and Barber should've either not spoken about Europe or placed less expectation on the season from the get go - it was obvious it would be difficult, at best, to get a European spot again.

Not really. Not when you look at how many starts/appearances the £200m gang have made – and how many games they've been injured for. Add into the mix a new manager coming in – plus the fact that RDZ didn't exactly have them firing for the first half of 2024 – and it's not surprising in the slightest to me that this season has panned out the way it has.
