I thought it was funny. We got ridiculous fees for Sanchez, Cucurella and Caicedo. He’s saying it like casinos have their “favourite customers” - the ones who give them shit loads of money for minimal return.

Maybe we could start offering a free buffet and comp their hotel rooms at the Jury’s Inn next time.
You're probably right, but my point stands......you don't call your gullible rube a gullible rube, because you want to fleece him again. A bit too slick. A measured pause would suit Barber well.

This is fair, and I say that as someone who lost their head a bit after the 7-0.

My big problem this season is that we've rarely looked like a coherent team, and with the awful Palace, Everton, and Forest games so close together, I felt like we were going backwards in that regard.

But I suppose that's to be expected in the circumstances, no? Progress is rarely linear. Especially given we've got all these new, young players who've never played in this division before, alongside a manager who is in much the same boat.

On the other hand though, someone posted a list of managers who'd lost 7-0 after the Forest game. I think they intended it to be a "ah it's not so bad" kinda thing, but I looked at that list and thought "none of those managers' careers were on the upswing when they lost 7-0; none of them went on to greater things".

So I'm still basically on the fence. I just want to see us look more coherent and be more fun to watch in the rest of this season. I don't think I can take many more games like the Forest, Palace, and Everton ones (the results sucked, but the performances sucked more).

Any chance of a quick summary - or even a cut and paste job - for those of us who have not signed up for FB, and have no intention of doing so?
I can do it in French, if you want. We are in a translation season, after all.

We haven‘t looked coherent because we haven’t had the chance to play a properly settled lineup all season due to the injuries.

Might just be me, but hearing Barber talk about Chelsea as "one of our best customers" makes me feel a bit sick. It's correct in £ terms, but nobody follows the Albion because we're a reliable feeder club for Chelsea. He's a bit too f***ing slick sometimes. Clever, but not a lot of emotional intelligence.
I didn’t see it like that. We pulled their pants down .

Glad to finally hear this from the club when it has been obvious from the start.

Finish last season on a downer, the coach leaves the new coach (however exciting a prospect) is coming from a lower league, a lot of squad turnover in the summer, and then a season that gets blighted by injuries from day one ruining any chance for continuity on the pitch. These are hardly the circumstances which breed instant success.

That we are still top half and in the cup does represent a reasonable return thus far given the circumstances.

With Georginho now finding his feet, Minteh beginning to make more of a contribution we are finally seeing some progress with the signings and the Gomez cameo against Chelsea also a positive.

As transitions go it is not going too badly.

I actually think it represents a terrific return. I'm of the view that if we had Forests injury record we could be somewhere up around where they are and if Forest had ours, they would be scrapping with Ipswich and Leicester. But given what's happened the manager and the club take credit

I'm less keen than you that "transitional season" is the official messaging. Given the amount a season ticket costs and the proportion of my income I have to spend to go to watch the Albion, I don't really want the club to be openly admitting this.

I think the message from the club was really a "Don't Panic" message to the fans. Completely agree with the rest of your post.

Transitional season does mean we aren't trying or ticket prices should be lower you numpties. 🤦‍♂️

It means we're bedding in this season, to then push onto new highs next!

Again, look at the table, look at our injury record. We're in a great place.

It's actually remarkable we're not down the bottom. Most other teams in our situation would be.

I've been very vocal about the ridiculous vitriol on this forum against the new players, the team and the manager of late. Expectations so out of whack. Calling for Fabs head etc.

But, we've signed a large squad for one reason in my view - to be able to properly compete in Europe regularly.

Lack of squad depth killed us last season, as the amount of extra games led to more injuries, players then playing more minutes, leading to more injuries etc.

We've signed a bunch of young people who (most) will come good. That squad depth has already helped us loads this season with the injuries, but next season my expectations are high and pushing for Europe each year seems our new goal.

Think I'll save judgement on that stance until I see who leaves in the summer. If Pedro and Baleba go it'll be another transition season. If they stay and we build on the work this season then great.
