So tonight I broke up with my girlfriend of eleven months, it's fair to say I'm devastated to say the least.


The thing is I am at University and want to have the full Uni lifestyle that I feel I know I have been missing out on.

Just gutted really and needed to write how I feel.

Any advice on how to get over your first true love would be appreciated.

Eh? YOU broke up with your girlfriend because you want the 'uni lifestyle', and YOU'RE devastated?

She can't be that much of a true love if you don't think you can be faithful (I presume this is the 'Uni lifestyle' you talk of?).

I can't really offer you any advice because if the above is the case it's pretty bloody stupid in my opinion. I was with my girlfriend for about six months before we both went off to university. We managed to see each other every few weeks and while it was tough at times we made it through, and we both managed to enjoy our time away. Nearly 20 years later we are still together, happily married with a family.

Good luck, whatever happens, though.

For what it's worth I split up with my gf from home that I'd been going out with for a year or more when I went to uni. Was pretty sure I loved her but it's amazing how quickly uni with new mates, parties, hard work and sexually adventurous 19 year old girls can distract you.

Led to a crisis of self questioning angst much like yours, until I somehow pulled literally the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life. Amazingly she turned out to be a lovely person too. We've been together 20 years now.
