The brexit years
Summer of 76
The tale of 9/11

Irrespective of death just the unprecedented events now.

I think it's the " Unknown Knowns " that is the worst part, where and when does it end and how many do we lose on the way?

Also the fact that it isn't yet widespread in, say, Africa, where it could be absolutely devastating.

This, It could well be cataclysmic.

9/11 killed less than 3,000 people, but it was live on TV and probably the most horrific thing I have seen.

I was just reading on the WHO site about the SARS epidemic in 2003.
I cannot remember anything along the lines of what the population of the UK are being asked to do.

I vaguely recall the SARS problem, at the time it did not get close enough to seem to be a problem, the enormity of this is completely unparalleled.

Horrifying yes, but, it did not happen day after day.

Biggest story of my lifetime I would say (born 1967)
The tragic events of the 11th September 2001 were indeed a huge story but as already mentioned killed far fewer - they did have a massive effect on our world which certainly persists to this point and will for some time yet. I suspect the worldwide death toll will certainly be equivalent to a major war.

Some of us remember the Black Death....

It falls well short of WW2. Not even in the same league- or even in the league. I think most Londoners would have taken this against the blitz.

It comes second, or possibly third as the major event of the last century. I think the turmoil after Franco's underhand activities prevented Cliff Richard winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1968 may just pip it.

On the 10 July, 80 years ago the Battle of Britain started. Lasted 3 months, 3 weeks. 14,000 civilians dead, 4000 pilots & crew.
