There IS a lack of rainfall. Have you been residing on Pluto for the last year or so? That said, I fully agree that the inadequate, leaking infrastructure needs plenty wonga spent on it: but seemingly the powers-that-be have already spunked any funds on a really useful war or two during the last decade.

The water companies are privately run, the greedy barstads have just filled there bank accounts with bonuses

Yes, indeed they are. Let's all pray that the onus isn't on those scumbags to sort out the knackered pipes - or we'll all have to contemplate drinking turd-infested seawater. No doubt the gallant shareholders will be going for a large slice of Evian though. :glare:

I think they're being naughty and trying to save water now so there's not a lack for the tourists coming to the sodding Olympics. South-east after all... but I'm just cynical.

a tad too cynical, it might have been in the back of their mind to avoid having tourists at stand pipes. however, i'd rather a bit of anticipation of the situation and ban frivilous watering of lawns so we dont end up with stand pipes later in the year.

as for "no lack of rain", clearly you're not inclinded to go outside, i cant remember the last time i had to use my umbrella to or from work. where are the April showers?

Unfortunatly the onus is on the greedy swine who run these companies, the underground systems have not been properly maintained or upgraded since privatisation.

If the people of london do not want there services improved that is there problem, out in Sussex, Kent and the rest of the south east little or no maintainance or upgrading is being carried out, apart from sewage treatment works but this does not help the water supply issues to a growing population in the area.

It's from the South East Water website, which also shows that Arlington is virtually at capacity:
South East Water - Environment - Reservoir levels - Arlington

The reason the reservoir is built next to a river is so that it can be filled , it is not filled directly from rainfall alone but as SEW have imposed the ban i would not trust there figures on the Ardingly reservoir .If they spent profits on maintaining and upgrading instead of paying themselves bonuses there would be no water shortage

From what I have seen the figures on Ardingly look about right. Hopefully todays rainfall will help a tiny bit though.

Notice those figures are nearly a month old though. I imagine that the situation has actually got worse since then as we haven't had any really significant rainfall since until today

Every where you go in the countryside the grass verges are lush green, Arlington reservoir is full to the brim Alfriston has flood warning signs up,are the water companies taking the piss.Bonuses should not have been paid the money should have been used to repair the miles and miles of leaking pipework, and to install new pipework to bring water from the north to the south along with more reservoirs, seeing as consecutive governments insist on building all the housing this country needs down here in the south , which incidently is the real problem not lack of rainfall.:rant::albion2:

I blame Crystal Palace.
