Interesting replies, today the Pagent. Just how relevent is to YOU a lot of history there. Maybe i just think we make the same mistakes again and again.

I wouldn't label myself as being particularly patriotic.

A small matter of chance as to which country you end up being aligned with, or exiting as you are.

Britain has done an awful lot of good, but done an awful lot of bad.

The Jubilee celebrations have passed me by. A mixture of working and apathy have prevented me from claiming my free pair of Union flag flip flops from BHS.

i love my country, i love the history and i love the tradition

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,--
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

Raucously seconded. Well put.

I'm happy that we have such a rich history and that although we think everyone despises the British they love our culture and identity.

Seeing as I was born before WW2 I lived through most of it! ..(born the day the 'Bismarck' was launched)..no seriously though, I think history is very important.....we don't often learn from it...but there are many lessons there....making a mistake is human....making the same mistake twice is stupidity.

Brilliant, sends a tingle down your spine. We have a fantastic, rich and complex history, anyone that doesn't at least try to learn it is missing out on the most amazing story.

'history' as a nationalist concept is irrelevant, none of you were born when these 'historic' events happened so why should we take credit for them? If you feel pride in this country's history, are you saying others (i.e. Germany) should feel shame for theirs?

There is a big difference between history and patriotism. Im not a patriot in the sense of loving the royal family, standing to attention at the sight of the flag and singing the national anthem and certainly dont think that everything English is best BUT I think our history is very relevant and very important.
