England's second innings collapse in the Lord's test and the fact they're batting last here at Edgbaston mean that any target of over 150 gives Australia a chance, probably 225 means it's an even game.

Therefore, as things stand, Australia would need to score 310 in their 2nd innings to leave England that 225 to chase. I fancy another 40 runs after lunch and a lead of 125 would still leave us in a solid position. It would be a big ask for the Aussies to score more than 350 in their 2nd innings.

Just back to the opener debate, I wonder whether there's a case for Buttler opening instead of Lyth and Eoin Morgan coming in at 5 after Root?

Buttler will score quickly against the new ball, and this will take the pressure off Cook to force it as he has recently had to do. You don't really want to be blooding an uncapped Test player at the business end of an Ashes series and Morgan can slot in seamlessly. I fancy Buttler to score more runs than Hales or anyone else as opener too.
