If the table is flat, then before too long, the curvature of the earth would mean that the ball was going uphill relative to the ground and would slow down and eventually roll backwards.

What is 'flat'? I mean, if we're using a level to ensure that the table is true then surely it will follow the earth's curvature?

A really good whack might reach as far as Winchester, I reckon.

If, you were starting from say Shoreham, with a head wind yes, but on a still day, due to the curvature of the earth, it could 'peak' and then roll down hill to Salisbury. Maybe

If you had a snooker table with no end cushions, how far could a decent player hit the cue ball with a solid, clean hit?
And would it go further of they applied some top to it? It would reduce the initial velocity, but also reduce friction? Excellent question.

Going to bed on the cusp of needing to take a leak.

Oh that gamble....... it’s every bloody night for me. When I was young I could go to bed after a belly full of beer and make it and even now I think I can ‘make it’....... no chance.

Usually it's the memory of one time or another where I said or did something mildly embarrassing twenty years ago that my brain dredges up and presents to me like some terrible piece of cinema going "Hah! Look at you! Ya big ****".

Ha! This. I’m all settled on the mattress, pillows just how I like them, the foot twitches, sleep is imminent. And then my brain waiter comes over to show me a menu of all the embarrassing moments and bad decisions I e ever made in my life :)

“And which catastrophic clunker would Sir like to relive tonight”?

Thanks, brain!

Wondering if any of the things I did yesterday were "what he would have wanted".
