The Cottage (coffee bar) in Middle Street.
The Big Apple.
J. Lyon & Co cafe in North Street
The Curzon and Embassy cinemas in Western Road, and there used to be a cinema in North Street but I've forgotten its name. But it was the first non-smoker.

What goes on there now? Is it just empty? :(

I presume so. I saw some great shows there. The Beatles appeared in 63 although I couldn't get tickets.

In the shadow of Seaford Head
The Regent (dance hall & cinema)
The Savoy
The Astoria
The Curzon
The Odeon: Kemp Town. West street, Hove station
Victor Sylvester School of Dancing
Court School of Dancing
Whisky a Go Go
All the fountains lit up and working along the Old Steine
Southdown Buses

.......I could go on but am probably showing my age.
I would just like to say that in the late 50's and early 60's Brighton was really the place to be.

It was.
I was going to mention the Southdown buses all lined up in Pool Valley.

Continentale 'blue movie' cinema in Kemp Town.
Some of us remember the Continentale BEFORE it became a blue movie cinema.

Good shout.

The Cottage - a wonderful place for late night spaghetti bolognese.

Forte's Ice Cream Parlour opposite the Aquarium - not part of the Charles Forte (later Trust House Forte) empire, but founded by his brother, Rocco (who, in turn, is not the founder of the Rocco Forte Hotel chain).

And the Aquarium itself, of course.

Right next door to each other in Preston Park - the Rover garage and Unwins Food & Wine are now some old bolleaux called the Q Network garage and Threshers Wine & No Food (which is a bit of a bummer if you used to buy your selection of the finest Birds Eye products and microwavable plastic lasagne on your way home from work most nights) :glare:

location location
The old cinema in North Street that became Burger King in 1990.
The beloved Goldstone Ground now an horrific retail park.
The Vogue Cinema and Cox's pill factory Lewes Road, now the dreaded Gyratory system and Sainsburys.
Toilets at bottom of Elm Grove (now a flower stall), the ones at the top (now a cafe).
The old, open concrete Churchill Square with Tesco's at the back.
The old art-deco bus shelter at bottom of Elm Grove where I used to wait for the school bus (now a plastic and glass thing)
The Zap Club, Kings Road Arches rip
Fitzherbert (my old school) in Woodingdean, knocked down and now the Nuffield Hospital
Wilsons Laundry in Whitehawk
The Windsor Pub in Windsor Street, now some shitty trendy organic pub
The old Argus building in Robert Street, now trendy flats and Wagamammas (which is quite good)
Peter Pans Playground on Madeira Drive (not quite sure what they are doing there at the mo)
North Road Swimming Baths
Thats all I can remember for now!
