Texaco Aberystwyth half a mile away from Morrisons, all pumps working (8) no queue 3 people Inc myself filling up at 136.5p , headed off to get shopping and you literally can't get in the car park for cars queuing for fuel at 135p, traffic in and out at a complete standstill with Heddlu scratching their heads as to what to do.

Just incredible that people are willing to waste a Sunday queuing for 1p per litre cheaper fuel whilst burning fuel.

There are around 8380 petrol stations in the UK.

On Thursday 5 were closed due to a lack of delivery drivers to deliver the fuel. They were not closed due to a lack of fuel.

How on earth did that scenario cause panic buying across the country?

The job offer is not being made to the EU. It will either attract temporary workers or it won’t. Either way we need longer term solutions to address the structural problems faced in recruiting lorry drivers. Bearing in mind the problems also being faced in EU countries I also have my doubts as to the likely success of this scheme. Whether in or out of the EU we would be competing for the same workers to make up the shortfall so the best response is to raise wages rather than import cheap labour.

If you truly believe media coverage doesn’t shape events then I believe it is your critical thinking that is flawed.

I suspect he does think media coverage shapes events but only when it suits his own views. Daily Mail whipping up a panic about immigrants….blame the media. BBC whipping up a panic about supposed fuel shortage…. Blame err Brexit. All parts of the media play to their constituency and BBC News has rather been guilty over this issue which is disappointing to those of us who are generally supportive but not impressed by the events of the past few days.

Tell people not to panic and they will suspect they should be doing so. Run the story as a minor one and you won’t need to tell them. This story was given over prominence for one reason only and that was because it added to the ongoing one about the lorry driver shortage. The fact that there was no actual issue with petrol deliveries was conveniently ignored.

True. The Guardian, even today, just can't stop themselves - "UK could face Christmas turkey shortage, says specialist supplier".

Edit: and you can bet your bottom dollar there will be stories after Xmas about all the uneaten turkeys being dumped.
