Yes, and I imagine that if we still wanted him we would have tied the deal up before Jan and announced on the 1st. I'd be genuinely surprised if we were to sign him this January for that reason - unless our other targets don't come off again

I can't remember where I read it (maybe on the Andone thread) that said we'd offered less money for him. It's probably just a rumour.

We won't sign a striker this month anyway, I think we all know it in our gut.

I really hope you are wrong and I would like to see one signed before the Palace game and definitely before WBA, there are winnable games in January with points at stake that could keep us in this league.

We know this so surely the club can see this also. I am, really surprised that a striker hadnt been lined up to sign as soon as the window opened and this increases my doubt about signing one.

The story in the Argus today about Hughton telling Jose he needs to "add to Brighton's firepower" is a worrying sign IMHO.

This. CH has already said any transfer activity is going to be “minimal”.

This over analysis of CH quotes never really works. He just sticks to bland statement after bland statement during windows.

You can either read it as a signing is imminent or nothing doing. Its impossible to tell.

eg: after the game on Monday he also said.

"What we want to do is make sure we have the best squad possible and there were certainly parts of our game today, areas we still need to improve. .. If we can add to [offensive areas] in this window, then certainly we will. "

Not that we had offered less. We haven't made an offer.
It was that his valuation may have dropped having fallen out with his club management.

There's not really a pattern with Hughton January signings or loans in the 2 previous windows. Some early, some late.

Towell - Jan 2nd
Ridgewell - Jan 2nd
Knockaert - Jan 7th
Kayal - Jan 23rd
Sidwell - Jan 25th
Akpom - Jan 30th
Glenn Murray - Jan 31st *
Skalak - Feb 1st

*converted loan > permanent

I cannot believe that CH TB and PB will just let us drift out of this League without putting up a fight during January by signing somebody up front.

Quite a few on here, whilst realising we need a striker, think we have enough to stay up even if we don’t get another striker.

Perhaps the club feel the same, if we can’t find anyone of the quality required within the budget available? I am starting to think it’s only bedwetters like me that think we’ll go down without at least one.

But what many realise on here is that the premier league is a whole different prospect to other leagues.
Even though our season has gone better then expected, I would not just expect the second half of the season to be the same.

Everton=New manager
West Brom New manager
West Ham New Manager.
Crystal palace New Manager.

These teams have improved since we played them, And will continue to do so.
and no doubt the teams in the bottom half will use all the assets at there disposal to bring in players and strengthen.

Are we really going to compete in the 2nd half of this season with the current squad!.

People just harp on about our current position, and how you need to keep the faith and remember the dark days.

The real world says that others around us are already beginning to strengthen, they have new managers and are already improving. If we don't match those around us in ambition to stay up we will go down. I know we were shit 20 years ago and have been shit for most of the last 20 but we're not now, so I'd like to us to everything necessary to not be shit anymore.

I’m with you, I think survival almost certainly depends on who we get in.
