Yes. The pre-contract agreement has now expired and produced an shiny new contract for our new hero.

I wonder if he takes Moder’s place in the squad this Saturday?
I expect he’ll probably play as much too :lolol:

Needs to learn the “process”, once he’s over the minor niggle that most new signings get as soon as they arrive on the South Coast

Isn't Diego Gómez technically a signing for today?
Technically probably already signed some time back... but his player license is ours from today.

SSN reporting we’re in for a RB and LCB this window.
The eternal chase for a left-footed central defender.

Its not easy. A lot of teams want them and there's not oceans around so the competition is heavy. To find a left-footed defender who is both available and could be a starter for us when we chase top 8 next season is quite difficult. In the best of worlds, Lewis Dunk isn't an automatic starter next season and despite what some people think, replacing him will be a real challenge. He is a really good Premier League defender for us. Reality is though that at 34-35 there's usually a grim and rapid decay in the performances of a footballer, so we need to prepare for that.

And for those wondering: no, Igor is not the guy.

As for RB, yes I think we will sign Kayode from Fiorentina.

SSN reporting we’re in for a RB and LCB this window.

Andrew Naylor quoted him end of October as saying we didn’t need any more CBs this January:

Posted on the 2025 January window thread

Given we have Igor, Dunk, Pervis, Van Hecke, Lamptey (if he stays), Veltman and Webster (when he’s fit) and Hinshelwood who can play RB too if needed, I’m not sure we’ll be chasing central defenders or more wingers or central midfielders very hard, if at all.

Obviously, Veltman and Dunk are slowing down and come the summer, RBs and CBs will be a priority for next season but after a £200m spend in the summer, apart from Gomez and maybe Ferguson moving, I’m not expecting a busy window for us.

It's very possible we'll sign both a winger and a central midfielder, but in the young/cheap/prospect category, either immediately loaned-out or allowed to remain with their existing club for the remainder of the season. We've been strongly linked to several already.

We won't stop filling the pipeline with potential gems for when the current crop of starters move away.

I for one can't wait for the moans of "we don'et need another winger" if and when that happens!

Yes, of course it’s possible. 😉

I listed the obvious ones, including Kayode, on the 2025 January transfer thread, plus a few that I don’t think have been discussed on other threads.

I also agree that it is possible we will do some low key deals of young ‘development’ players with a view to starting them next season as I said on the other thread, we will need to get some new central defenders in place for next season given the age of Dunk and Veltman ..

I‘m just not sure, given the summer spend, Tony’s preference not to trade in January and Brentford’s very keen interest in Kayode, we will be getting into a bidding war for a right sided wingback - unless, as I said, if Lamptey is on on his way out - much could depend on how Hürzeler thinks Lamptey has performed in recent weeks (and how VH is working with him)

Personally, if we were going to be spending any significant money to shore up this season’s squad (which I still think unlikely) , I would think we would prioritise a left wingback and/or a striker tbh - if Pervis sustains an injury, we only have Igor who prefers an inside position and if we sell/loan out Ferguson (at his insistance), we only have injury prone Welbeck, underperforming Pedro/Adingra and Enciso as our forward options..

Anyway, while you are here, perhaps you want to merge my January thread with this one. It isn’t easy trying to follow both!?

I recall, just flagging the latest reporting like everyone else, especially considering the source.

I would hope the need for a pacy defender is not overlooked this window. As much as we despise him Cucurella was the last player with real pace in the back 4

Ferdi’s preferred position is LB or LWB, albeit he is right footed.
