Queens Park/Hanover area.

I tried the Kemp Town Chippy for the first time last night and was BITTERLY disappointed. The batter was soggy and the chips were just SHIT. The Codfather is balls nowadays and more interested in selling chinky food (yeah, I said chinky), The Sea Breeze on Southover is okay but no great shakes. I have been told good things about the Daily Catch on St James Street, is that any good?

Where should I be going? Don't mind a short drive and that as I lurve the chips and fish, if i could be bothered I'd be at Jenny's on Preston Drove every time.

HELP!

(ps I know this thread has been done before but times change)

I used to frequent Tammy's (ex Compton Road resident) and I did enjoy their chips but that was back in the day. Last time I went there I was not impressed.

Anyway, that's fuggin miles away so is immediatly disregarded.

A lot of people like Bardsleys, not Hanover I know but not far.
Not a lot better than Sea Breeze IMO.
I generally make the effort to drive to Bankers for their matso (or something like that coating), might try Jennys if they do phone orders, thanks for the tip.
That one up Queens Park Rd was good many years ago, not tried the Elm Grove one.

The only reason to drink in town is because you know you're going to hit Sing Li afterwards - so much more than chips and battered sausage - that shop is the meaning of life.

There is one on Upper Lewes Road which is BOOM TING but still annoyingly far away.

The one on Queens Park Road is poor now.

Im in roughly the same area as you and have the same problem. Take a drive to the one half way down Manor Hill and don't think you will be disappointed. Is currently my fave by a mile despite being a 5min drive away!

Almost opposite end of Queens park Road was the one I was thinking of, too far to walk back without them going bit cold or soggy for me.

Pity about Codfather their fish n chips were lovely once, their chinese food aint much cop either.

Indeed they do. The last time we did fish 'n' chip shops I was exceedingly rude about the chippy in the dip at Hollingdean. Well it had been a few years since I've been there and it's changed hands and I'm now pleased to say it's BRILLIANT and at least as good as dear old Mo at the Model.

Doesn't help you Max I know but I wanted to set the record straight. I do sympathise though: having a bad local chippy is worse than having a bad local boozer.

Do you mean actually in the Dip? The best one (bar Jenny's obviously) is the one just down the road from Downs Junior's towards Lewes Rd

It's been a while since I lived in Brighton, or had fish and chips while visiting, but the Codfather used to be ace. Used to walk from 7 dials all the way but Islingword Road to get one - THAT'S dedication. Is it totally shit now then? :nono:
