The Worst Ref whilst at Withdean?

Prosser has to win. He brought refereeing in to disrepute that day. Made as hash of a performance so tried to cover it up with some awful allegations.

Prosser - Police Deny Race Claims

By Bob Gear Thursday, 24th October 2002

Referee Phil Prosser reported Albion Fans for Racial abuse of himself and Sheffield United's Peter Ndlovu. Both the player and the Police have stated that they heard no racial abuse.

Phil Prosser refereed the match between Brighton & Sheffield United at Withdean on Saturday. His performance was questioned by many Brighton Fans at the Game.

Local MP, Ivor Caplin, was so incensed by the Referee's performance that he stated after the game that he would be reporting Prosser to the footballing authorities.

The Referee was listed as being from West Yorkshire. Sheffield is in South Yorks.

He denied the Albion a couple of Penalty claims in the first half, he gave 2 doubtful penalties to United in the second half which helped them turn around the game. Sheffield United won 4-2 after being 2-0 down at half-time.

The Referee defended his performance after the game when Interviewed on BBC Southern Counties Radio by Ian Hart.

He said he is not from Yorkshire but lives there, but only moved there two weeks ago. Hart asked him if he was pleased with his performance today, and he stated that he was

He said the first penalty was given for a foul on Carl Asaba by the Keeper but it was not a red card as another defender was there, and therefore was not a clear goal scoring chance, and that the second penalty was a push by the Centre Half on Wayne Allison. Sheffield United players are referred to by their names whereas Brighton players are called by their positions.

On the monday after the game Prosser announced that he and Sheffield Uniteds Peter Ndlovu had been racially abused by Brighton Fans at the game. He also alleged that coins had been thrown at the Sheffield dugout.

He didn't make these allegations on the day.

Brighton chairman Dick Knight said the two senior safety officers and the stewards escorting the referee had seen no such event. However, he added: "We take both allegations very seriously and, after the FA divulge their findings, we will investigate thoroughly if any wrongdoing comes to light."

According to the BBC South's News Peter Ndlovu did not hear any racist abuse directed at him on Saturday & has "no complaints".
The Police Superintendant who was at the game on Saturday said today on SCR
that his officers had received no complaints of racial abuse directed at anybody
at Withdean. He also went on to say that a thorough search of the ground did
not produce any coins.

So, it seems likely that there is no evidence of racial abuse of either the ref or Peter Ndlovu by Brighton Fans.

Brighton & Hove Albion take racist abuse seriously, and will ban offenders. They have a telephone hotline and

email address printed in every Matchday Programme, and advise supporters to 'Report a Racist'

Prosser for certain.

But, the Assistant Referee in the Bournemouth game comes a close second, IMO.

Agree with Prosser being the winner but a special mention for the ref (don't know his name) in charge of our game with Notts County the season we went up from the 3rd tier to the 2nd (2nd of the Back2Back championships). It was obvious from about 2 mins in that their sole tactic was to kick BZ out of the game. The ref just let them get on with it until midway through the second half he was kicked so far up in the air he came down on his shoulder dislocating it! I distinctly remember the Notts Co. fans celebrating like they'd scored!!

Childlike in looks & manner ,Ward has been a clueless shit on each of the 3 or 4 occasions I have had the misfortune to see him spoil a game. One day when he grows up he may realis that he will NEVER make the grade as a ref & f*** off back into obscurity - hopefully sooner rather than later.
In short the man is a 24 karat twat

Joe Ross for me he was always sh*t never had agood game ,Leon Knight and Chris Iwelomo told me he was always harder on black players during a game which was strange as he sighted racism as one of the reasons he quit ,I say he was just not good enough!

Tosser Prosser's horror-show against The Blunts is certainly the most abject slice of 'officiating' I have had the misfortune to witness. A disgrace.

Other myopic clowns I can recall during the Withdean years include: Kevin (No-f***ing-Friends) Friend; General George Riley; the hopeless (& now thankfully retired) PC Singh; Trevor (about as useful as a chocolate) Kettle; Gavin (Pork-Sword) Ward...

I remember Steve Bennett having a shocker at Withdean once - at least he was getting plenty of abuse - probably about 6 or 7 years ago. We might have been playing Huddersfield.......or another team, I can't remember for sure.
