What a bloody great film. Christopher Lee is tremendous in it, and Edward Woodward.

Just watched it last night for the first time since I was a child, and it’s genuinely creepy and all without really any gore or cheap shocks.

Having watched (and disliked) the hugely overrated pseudo-remake Midsommar, I was astonished how well The Wicker Man has held up.

Avoid the terrible 2006 remake starring Nicolas Cage though, but do enjoy this parody trailer in glorious 240p edited to make it look like a comedy:

Probably my all-time favourite film.

Watched it so many times that I know most of the dialogue by heart!

Sergeant Howie: "Oh, what is all this? I mean, you've got fake biology, fake religion. Sir, have these children never heard of Jesus?

Lord Summerisle: "Himself the son of a virgin, impregnated, I believe, by a ghost. Do sit down, Sergeant. Shocks are so much better absorbed with the knees bent."

Spot on. As you say it just effortlessly creates an eerie atmosphere around the pagan ritual stuff that's really unnerving.

Aside from the lovely Britt one of my fave scenes is the Maypole Song. An absolute horror classic whilst the remake is utter gash!

Bloody hilarious though. One of my favourite bad movies. The bit with the bees, and Nic Cage punching out a woman in a bear costume… so many classic moments

I’ve heard about that - it’s been touring for ages, small venues and pubs. Apparently they do face painting, costumes to try on and stuff, then what sounds like a bit of a Rocky Horror-style showing of the movie. It sounds like the sort of thing I’d enjoy after a few beers…

Bloody terrifying when the candles were lit around him when he wakes up but the ending with the drums banging and the look on Edward Woodward's face when he was led to his death in chains with him slowly saying:"OH MY GOD! FLIES" "NO, DEAR GOD, NOOOOO!" Those are two very disturbing and scary moments in the history of horror. The rest of the film is fairly average though.

If you want the best horror movie to watch for Halloween then it's the original of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Horrifying all the way through. Especially Leatherface and the very creepy father when they both torture Sally to near death.

I went to the last one at The Dome ( well , a room off the main bit ) and it's brilliant....

9/10 as my jelly frog from the goodie bag was missing...

'MUDDA' needs to be shouted at the appropriate moments, best enjoyed half cut IMO
