I won't lie, this petrifies me, I know of young people who have been struck down by it and are struggling weeks and months on and I know of relatives of friends and colleagues who have died from it, as a morbidly obese middle aged man I fear that I would really struggle if I was affected by it. I'm not suffering with depression but I do get anrgy about the blase approach of anti lockdowners and the governments poor management of this. How the last year has gone I certainly believe the best approach from a mental standpoint is expect the worst but hope for the best.

Can I ask if you're doing anything about your obesity? Even at the best of times, we all have a responsibility to look after our own health and fitness as much as we can. Apologies if there's a reason for your problem.

If...and it still is a huge if for me......the 12 week gap proves to be a mistake (we're basically in a colossal live trial of the thinking now, including being able to compare gaps lengths across nations - the scientists must be loving it), it actually isn't that difficult at all to tweak the programme and switch to second jabs within days - simply means the next wave of people to be called in will be those needing second jabs rather than the next group of first-dosers. Clearly this will extend the period to get everyone vaccinated but at 500k/day (seemingly where we're headed) it would mean all those in the first 4 vulnerable groups (15m) could be second-jabbed in a month or so. As we know that nails something like 90% of the hospitalizations and deaths.

I agree. I wonder if any numbers will be published showing positive cases / hospitalisations for those that have had 1 or 2 jabs and time lapsed?

Unlikely I s'pose

Headline: "Covid: Israel vaccine fears 'out of context and inaccurate' "

So possibly yet more unsubstantiated, badly researched scaremongering by the press. What a surprise. They've been generally awful throughout this. Seems from today's news the Beeb (and others - including that knob Morgan) have been desperately seeking a GP Surgery somewhere that hasn't had their full delivery of vaccine, rather than focusing on the vary large % of places that have. Can only imagine what this constant stream of negativity is doing to people's mental health when they are already fragile and worried.

BONG ! DEATH RATES HIGHEST EVER
BONG ! DORIS IN BLACKBURN IS 81 AND HASN'T HAD A CALL YET
BONG ! ISRAEL CONFIRM ONE DOSE DOESN'T WORK
BONG ! ATRAZENECA FACTORY FLOODED

(oh and by the way, infection rates have halved from the peak a couple of weeks ago, vaccinations yesterday were the highest ever, loads more centres have been opened.....................)

Fair enough. Try and tuck yourself up with Mrs Crodo. I genuinely believe this will all look better in a couple of months. I do share your concern about some of the more selfish and stupid people in the country. If you are really struggling mentally please talk to your friends. Harty had some good advice on the AR extract shared on the big board. Mod towers is always open for PM exchanges too.

I've got something called a cavernoma in my spinal cord which makes exercise and much of general life difficult, I try and get out for walks if possible but because of my issue I am unable to run or do any sustained physical exrercise, swimming I find is best but of course they've been mainly closed for nearly a year.

Desperately seeking ?

They must be useless if they can't find one - if I could be bothered I'd give them the address of mine.

Okay, thanks for your reply. That sounds tough, but explains the anxiety in some of your posts. As others have suggested, though, maybe concentrate more on the positive news, as per the examples in The Coronavirus Good News thread? We will get through this.

I'm sure there are loads - but in the great scheme of things, the good progress with vaccinations should be more of a headline IMO. The main press have been, and continue to be almost relentlessly negative throughout all this - I genuinely think they are responsible for a degree of the poor mental state many people find themselves in. I suffered about 30 mins of Piers Moron this morning - it's a constant, hysterical tirade of pinpointing literally anything negative he can lay his hands on (so he can go on Twitter and brag about 'holding the Government to account' presumably). Same with Kuenssberg and Peston's questions at press conferences etc etc.

Morgan is without doubt an opportunist, he has been since Murdoch hired him. The press are entitled to scrutinise a government has failed throughout on almost every measure

That said 360k vaccinations today (a record thus far), so far so good...

At the end of my tether
I am also deeply troubled by this 12 week delay in the Pfizer second dose. At home we have been seeking as much info as possible and it seems there is no data to that it will not still protect, but no data to show that it will. It seems Chris Whitty and his fellows just assume it will be ok, because vaccine usually do. That is a hell of an assumption.

We are steaming ahead with first doses. Soon we will have millions of people due their second dose. Have they retained enough vaccine to second dose everyone? The whole programme will have to stop and go back to the people they saw first, which will take ages .My point is that we will be no further ahead than if we had done the job properly.
They are supposed to give the same vaccine again. Have they retained enough Pfizer to do this?
I certainly hope so.

Well the big fear is that along with the 12 week gap, they will mix Pfizer 1st doses with AZ-Oxford 2nd doses. Again with no scientific data to do so.

But maybe the clowns in charge will surprise me.

I'm no expert but you have to ask yourself why no other country to following the same course as the UK?

only where several conditions are met - person has no record of what they took first, or vaccine is unavailable and person unlikely to return to the vaccination site. given vaccine is currently given on invitation this is all extremely unlikely to occur. its a contingency, not a standard procedure.

Did they surprise you at how well this vaccine programme is going?
No. The vaccine program is going worse than they are spinning it. Just politicians crowing about vaccinating over 70s.

Not 1 ( one ) person at my Sussex surgery has been vaccinated yet. Not even 1.

Do you think that we should stop vaccinating the next group in all areas due to a few being behind?

Overall the Vaccination is going well - Wales and a few areas aside.

There was always going to be some issues

I think they should divert vaccines to surgeries that haven't received any yet rather than trying to get ahead in other areas just so they can brag about it in the media.

Which is what they are doing, East Sussex only has one vaccine centre I heard earlier? Is this true?

There’s no point diverting if there isn’t the places to do it.
