Language like, "An insignificant island on the edge of Europe, living of the scraps........." is very much your (and the 'Inners') emotive language. Certainly not the Churchillian view of the British nation - which definitely would not be one ruled by bureaucrats in Europe!

Really? Churchill was looking to build an empire at a time when independence was the watch word. The empire was in the process of being dismantled, not reinforced.after the second world war and even before that.
