Completely agree. Lib dems are pretty much finished, their party finances are not looking good and there's no real figure among them to stand out and make the case for a centrist position. Unfortunately, Change UK is about as inspiring as magnolia and doesn't really tell us much more than they want change.

Anyone who follows politics knows their core ideas. Pro-EU and voting reform, but that's it. Early days maybe, but it's hard to imagine them coming out as being strong contenders for the centre ground. Especially with the idea of another General Election being touted as a solution (solution, my ass) to this impasse over Brexit. Change do not have the time to begin a full campaign. So there's a change their seats would go back to the party which they were ticketed on as a default.

Disagree with the sleepwalking. BlUKIP well under way, there's been a sudden surge of UKIPPERs heading back and taking a few their nasty mates with them. There's a civil war in the Tory party that's worse than the Labour in fighting. Conservatives are knowingly heading that way, Dominic Grieve's vote of no confidence is the sign of the times for the Tories.

The sudden lurch to the far right makes sense, Labour's now far-left. Naturally, that means the right swing rightward even further and the centre ground becomes very empty. History shows this.

its what the BBC report TIG/Change UK are saying, Allen is interim leader as they prepare for European elections... aside from the obvious problem, seems they may have identified how to continue in politics if their current member associations and constituents ask them to leave.

The professionals mentioned by the Tories here currently have an obligation to report incidents they believe are related to crime. Their obligation hasn’t changed but the Tories now want to introduce legal penalties to those they deem have failed in their duty.

Totally agree with that bit. Putting more pressure on people who are already under enormous pressure. But I think the Tory problem at the moment is that anybody with any sense that they have has already resigned somewhere along the line on a matter of principle, and those who are left particularly in the senior positions are the self-seeking self-serving publicists who are after being leader, and so are seeking to curry favour with the rank and file membership of the party by doing the daft things they will approve of in case they get to the final 2 in any leadership election.

Interim leader apparently


The Independent Group will stand candidates in the European elections having applied to register as an official political party under a new name - Change UK.

Heidi Allen, the MP for South Cambridgeshire, has been appointed to become Interim Leader of the new party for the purposes of Electoral Commission (EC) registration until the election of a permanent leader at an inaugural conference in September, when the main launch of the new party will take place.

The problem is that this has become so venomous, those that are speaking out are being targeted. You have the few brave* enough to speak out, such as Grieves, but other considerably 'moderate' MPs are definitely too scared to come out and say something. The problem here for the 'moderates' is what course of action do they take, do they remain within to try and influence a push back against this or do they speak out and face the wrath of the Conservative Associations as is becoming more and more evident.

For those that are centre-right, you have the additional worry of breaking away and helping Corbyn to power and then losing your seat to potentially even more right-wing nutter at the next election.

The state of British politics right now is atrocious, the timing could not be any more worse.
