'Mr Woodruff died in June and left the pub and its grounds to a family that had worked for him for years.'

So are they related to JW or not?

f*** that, the pubs by London Road station are a much better option, especially the Signalman.

With good bars at the ground itself, wonder if they would get fans going in significant numbers.

Will people really want to drink at the ground for more than, say, an hour though? I'd much rather stay in the pub and arrive at the stadium just in time for a quick one. Drinking under a football stand on a plain concrete concourse surrounded by the smell of stale burgers and Sky Sports News on mute is actually not much fun.

I plan to drink in Lewes beforehand and arrive at the stadium refreshed. With an urn of half-time tea and the customary posh biscuits in my bag, of course. As a matter of pure curiousity I'd be interested to see how attitudes may have changed at the Swan but I rather doubt there has been a sea change, so to speak. In the same way as I see no evidence that Melanie Cuttress has been begging for an audition with Gully's Girls. Unless anyone knows differently....

It's up to them, but if they want a 'rebrand' I think they'd manage it just fine. Different landlord, different attitude, new start with a captive audience. As for the remaining sniffy customers, they'd be so outnumbered on a matchday it wouldn't matter.

Funnily enough I popped in there for a couple of beers for the first time in years the other night and was quite impressed. Remember when it was the Railway and it was a dump. They also had a mental football team who used to play in the Sussex Sunday. How times have changed!

Yeah, it's good in there now. Nice little garden too.
