It's going to be cruel and heartbreaking...liz will have to come out fighting to get the Tory faithful on board but she's going to have to screech like crazy and deflect the actual questions.....not confident she has the ability to go toe to toe with Starmer..

She did alright. So did Starmer ' but people expect that from him and less from her. 'Nothing new about a Labour leader who wants to raise taxes' was a very good retort to Starmers last question.

All bollocks though. Labour want to tax and spend, fine. Seems Truss wants to spend but not tax, just borrow. She knows that it will be a future Labour gov that will have to deal with the debt, knowing the Tories can criticise the inevitable taxes needed to pay it, thus giving them a future route back into power. And so the cycle will continue.

I'm no great Liz dfan but thought she won comfortably, Starmer knows he's got a tougher nut after that today, interesting what his tactics will be for the rematch next Wednesday.

With no election imminent, Starmer will take some time to size up his new opponent, while Truss will arguably never be in a position as well prepared or as strong as she was in today.

Just my reading of it. Truss right now will enjoy the support of basically every Tory MP as the new winner of the election. But as soon as she starts making mistakes (which, lets be honest, will happen quite quickly) then that support will ebb. The energy announcement will be a big flash point, today she could just walk out and shout "Tax cuts!" and get a cheer from her side.

They have a point. In addition, Truss will have been thinking about facing Starmer since Starmer was elected as the Labour leader, 2.5 years ago. Starmer, on the other hand, over the past few weeks, maybe even couple of days. Give it time.

Maybe

I'll plump for overestimating Sir Bland.
