I'm going for Madness because they were more fun.

I'm well over bands with political messages in their songs, even if The Specials did it better than most bands.

Got to be the specials ,brilliant band ,madness started off ok but after they split from 2 tone label went downhill over time ,who remembers "driving in my car " f***ing garbage.
would like to see the specials this year ,not sure what they will be like now, or is really the specials without jerry dammers ?

The two are difficult to compare as in their era The Specials were top but Madnes have improved with age. Therefore they get my vote as they are still producing good stuff and year on year are great live. Look out in March for the new album and don't forget Madstock this summer.

eh?

Madness were never proper ska. Specials have the songs, the pedigree, the personnel, the look, everything. It's an unfair comparison and the Specials piss all over Madness who are now nothing more than a sort of fun office party knees up act.

By the way - no one, not even the Skatalites beats Prince Buster for ska.

On the f***ing BUTTON, as ever Mr B

Madness were a ska version of Quo, reliable and dependable and you new you were going to have a good time if you saw them... Specials more cutting edge with a message but, that message was so gloomy.. plus Terry Hall couldn't sing..
my vote is Madness

Liked Madness, loved The Specials, Ghost Town is IMO the greatest number 1 song of all time, as it reflected what was happening in England every night when it came out.

I was really disappointed that Suggs is now fronting a campaign to stop people using old style lightbulbs, a clear case of Madness going Politically Correct

Gone for both however Specials kept more to there SKA roots unlike Madness who did become more commercial.
Madness best stuff IMO was there early tracks and Specials were just excellent.

I miss the energy and lyrics of the Specials-perhaps i have been listening to Radio 2 "too much too young"!
