Lets be honest,.as the many posts here demonstrate, the main thrust of the anti fox hunt (whether after foxes or following a trail) brigade is class based. If the antis really cared bout the fox then they would be campaigning against shooting and snaring of foxes which is a truly horrible and slow way of killing a fox. I've lived in Lewes for 35+ years and don't know of tis annual wheelbarrow race' for foodbanks that you talk of. This event was organised by 'action against foxhunting' in my opinion to thwart the hunt. I haven't as you've said made disparaging remarks about the sabs, I have criticised the organisers of the wheelbarrow race. We shall have to differ on why they felt the need to cancel. All i know is that the one or two piles of horse crap could have been cleared up in 5 minutes. Respect to the 20 or so people protesting. The hunt supporters had mostly gone 5 minutes after the horses had charged off.

My understanding is the wheelbarrow race is a traditional event that runs on Boxing day - In some media it reports that The Action Against Foxhunting organised their own event to clash with the time the hunt normally has the road closure slot for - ie between 11-12am but that The Wheelbarrow Run event was supposed to start at 10am. This was cancelled because the Hunt threatened to go down the road at 10.00am without having booked a slot. As the paper said, the Anti-Foxhunting event booked for between 11-12 was likely to impact on the Wheelbarrow Run

The paper said it was a traditional event so I may have misunderstood- Whether it is an annual event or not, whether there was more than one Charity Wheelbarrow event planned or not - the point is that it was the Hunt that thwarted the charity Wheelbarrow run by sending threats and turning up without a road closure slot.

Well. The truth is that there's still prosecutions every year for illegal hunting with dogs, and even more for other illegal activities carried out by hunts and their members. That's just the ones where the sabs get the evidence to support a prosecution too, so perhaps it's no surprise that attacks on sabs to prevent evidence gathering leads to a significant number of those additional prosecutions.

During the Burns Inquiry, which ultimately led to the Hunting Act, the Countryside Alliance admitted that hunts would ‘remove’ 3000 foxhounds, or an average of 16 hounds per pack, before the 2000/01 hunting season. It also said that the number for other types of hunts would be proportionally similar. And that hunts would kill about 10% of this number of hound pups.

Looking at how many are killed, POWA’s calculations suggested between 4942 and 7302 foxhounds killed per year across 195 packs, with approximately 3250 to 4500 of those in English and Welsh hunts. These approximate to 15% of hounds killed per pack. For one specific example, Hunting Leaks’s 2020 documents from the Mendip Farmers Hunt describe the hunt having killed 6.5 couple, or 13 hounds, between April and June of that year. This translates to roughly 16%.

Also, have you no response to my post that it was the Hunt that made threats to the organisers Charity Foodbank event that meant the event had to be cancelled?

I’ve edited my post to consider your point that only one Wheelbarrow race was booked but that is neither here nor there - the fact is, you were wrong to blame the Action on Anti-foxhunting when it was the Hunt that caused the Council approved charity event to be cancelled not the organisers of the Wheelbarrow run..

Lamb attacks by foxes are ridiculously small number. Fox attacks on adult sheep are nigh on negligible. Electric fences are very effective at preventing it.

Most sabs care about all animals and you will find the same people protesting against other animal cruelty including snares.

A large proportion of hunt supporters are rural working class, they are brought in to do the hard and dirty work - they don't wear the red (or green) coats or own horses. whereas the heads of the hunts are often landed gentry or people with money and influence.
