She represents a particularly type of narcissistic politician that smashes everything into small pieces and picks up her own tiny fragment and thinks it's the whole.

This type of approach is generally described as populism.

Look at the polls Sue Ellen (*)

(*) Note the Poles, you've moved on.
It's got nothing to do with populism. It might have to do with narcissism, nationalism, insularity, transphobia, anti-intellectualism (I could go on), but she's in the party of the establishment that has governed for the past 13 years and also for c70% of the past three centuries and it's somewhat difficult to mobilise a politics against the establishment from within it.

I think you've cracked out. Perhaps she sees the homeless as wandering mendicants akin to Siddhartha. She didn't want to take their tents due to callous indifference but rather she was worried a shelter was incompatible with a truly ascetic lifestyle. By ensuring they go without, she's helping them on their path to enlightenment.
Yes, their suffering must increase, perhaps exponentially, before enlightenment can be attained.

I liked how, in her letter, she said that "It is generally agreed that (her) support was a pivotal factor in (Sunak) winning the leadership contest." In case anybody other than her has forgotten, he stood uncontested in the leadership contest. He was the only candiate who got the required 100 nominations to stand. There is a difference between believing your own publicity and dismissing documented reality.

It's as if Sunak was Scotland in Tallin 1998, kicking off against an absent Estonia and tapping in an open goal to win the game only for Braverman to go full John Terry, change into her FKW outfit and run onto the pitch to bask in the reflected glory of the walkover.

The final nail in her coffin.

The Supreme Court rules the Rwanda policy illegal. "Home Secretary's" appeal dismissed.
Sunak in his press conference says the solution is to make a law to say it is safe, and to leave the European court of Human Rights. Apparently the EU controls the UK's supreme court. Already the talking heads on radio 5 are presenting this as a battle between the UK and the EU. Utter madness.

The Good Friday Agreement and the present trade deal with the EU, are based within the ECHR.

Talk of a "contract" between the home secretary and the PM implying she was

And lets not forget, announced her leadership in the previous election live on Peston BEFORE Johnson had resigned.

That would have been some head to head: ECHR/international law v post corrective emergency UK legislation and firmed up Rwanda Treaty, Fortunately they’ll run out of time and be booted out.

As Anthony Newley once said, Stop the World, I want to get off.
Peter Cook once said "I met Anthony Newley once, and he said to me "who are you?""

It seems conservative grassroots movement WhatsApp refers to sunak as nutsak - can we have some sort of autocorrect to use the nutsak spelling from now on?

Ah man. I had to visit the in laws today.

It started off with sadness about Braverman's exit then it went even more mental.
  • Cameron is left wing.
  • Blair is pulling Labour's strings.
  • Life long tories but will vote reform next time.
  • Did not know about matrilineality in Judaism.
  • Had to have it explained that it was Tommy's lot that chalked up most arrest last weekend.
  • It is some sort of problem that Starmer's Mrs is Jewish.
In an ever dwindling group of GBNews viewers. You'll never guess what 'paper they read. Previously he was impressed with Truss before she became PM while saying he couldn't accept a non white PM.

Even my Mrs despairs at them. I used to feel like Alf Garnet's son in law, but at least Else Garnet wasn't a prat.

We have to spend crimbo day with them, I'll be hitting the booze about 10.30.am to numb the pain.

That’s true love @Motogull - well done!

My ex-wife’s family didn’t like me as I was a ‘red’ apparently. In hindsight I wish they’d been successful in warning me off!

Christ.

My only advice would be when it gets too much to bear, close your eyes and think of our best goals.

Good luck, and keep your cool. These are simple people. It's not their fault.

Perhaps you could become adept at changing the subject:

'Oh look, a squirrel !'
'The turkey/goose/beef was delicious'.
'Tell me about the time you went to Majorca'.

Empathy for you friend. In my case, it's my parents. Is the Daily Express? Shocking. Stick in there - only involve yourself as much as you can bear - and when you can tell your truth calmly. Oh and be kind. There are plenty like them out there I'm afraid but some time in the next year....
