I heard a few pathetic boos when his name was announced before game. He played superb today and anyone that think he is shit knows nothing about football. Work rate, defensive ability and his goals today were top class. Nearly MOM for me.

How many games has he played for us now?! He's been with us for a while! I'm sure it's okay to judge a player when he's been here for longer than 2 years!!!! Crazy.

Fine i'll judge him. He's an inconsistent performer who on his day is a decent champsionship striker, but when playing badly is a detriment to the team. He rarely shows up when the team are playing badly and away from home looks uncomfortable to say the least. He is a good instinctive finisher, but lacks pace and technical ability to play on the wing. Stick him up top with a partner i'm sure his performances would be better. I'd also like to add he has got better since January last year and has a good development rate.

Edit: re-reading it sounds a bit harsh. His recent performances have been ok, more than enough to warrant a place in the team, but i'm reserving judgement until Christmas to see if he can keep this form up.

Ashley Barnes - 40 goals in 110 games.
Leon Knight - 34 goals in 108 games.

Ashley Barnes, he's alright.

What more do some people want him to do. He may not have the flair of Vicente but he scores goals and "does a job defensively", not bad for some one who's supposedly shite.

The defensive part is sadly missed by most which is probably his biggest strength.

Barnes was awesome again today much like he was all last season, his tracking back is superb and his movement up front was quality. The finish for his second has brilliant.

I'll counter that with:

He's a consistent performer who on his day is an excellent champsionship striker, but when playing badly is a just as poor as anyone else. He rarely shows up when the team are playing badly, like many of our players and away from home looks more comforatable than most. He is an excellent instinctive finisher, has decent pace and technical ability which he demonstrates when being moved out to the wing. Stick him up top with a partner i'm sure his performances would be even better. I'd also like to add he has got even better since January last year and has a comparitively excellent development rate.

I've moaned a fair bit in the past about Barnes. Today he had a great game, fair play to him. He needs to do it week in week out though, that's always my gripe - too hot and cold

Stupid thread, nobody wants Barnes to fail. I for one am delighted that he has done well again.
Nothing to be gained by being all smug and pretending you are a better supporter than anyone else.
Have any of you ever had a pop at a player that you think has under performed? Crofts? Harley? Dicker?

Ashley Barnes is generally liked and appreciated by the vast majority of Albion fans and nsc users.
He works his socks off, but far more importantly has this habit of scoring goals.
Not bad for a young man who cost the club very little.

Of course, there will always be a dozen or so vocal anti-Barnes people on nsc, but does it matter.

At Championship level, how many strikers do it every week? Lambert? Holt? Other than that, it's hard to think of one.

If Barnes scored or made assists in half the games per season, that would be success.
