Seems to be some strong opinions on both sides so it's poll time.

Two footed challenge by McCann - red card.
Over the top of the ball stamp by Barnes - red card.
Throttling of Barnes by McCann - red card.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Barnes tried to get out of the way of the two footed challenge by McCann and jumped. He landed awkwardly and fell, it was not a stamp.

Barnes wasn't getting out of the way of anything. He stamped. Definite red.

The Burnley players' reaction however, much have been a red too?!?!

Correct decision for me. Although Burnley player should have gone for his reaction, as should their player who elbowed Vincelot before Vincelot punched him. Should have been 4 reds not 2.

I suggest you watch the replay either on Player or via the BBC IPlayer from the Football League Show. If Barnes hadn't jumped he would have been joining Dicker with a plaster cast on his leg. The commentator on the FL show expressed real surprise that it was Barnes that was sent off.

I'm sorry to those who keep posting the photo but you cannot possibly judge the incident from that. It's a split second in time. It proves nothing.

All I've seen is the millisecond BBC replay last night, and I don't feel remotely informed enough to make a judgement on the tackle(s) based on that.

funnily enough that's where i took the screengrab from. It was a definite red.

barnes deserved to go from what i have seen, but so should the Burnley chap for his reaction, to the letter of the law, it was 2 reds.

changing the subject, being in the NS, i didnt really see the Noone penalty shout, anyone see it, was it a foul / pen or a dive?

Abort, retry, fail
If McCann had not been sliding through the back of him, Barnes would not have landed on him.

This. McCann had done the same 2 footed tackle minutes earlier and went unpunished - that is what incensed me so much when Barnes saw red, total inconsistency by the muppet referee
