Well we can't say we didnt try to get into the RWC in our household, we've had it on the TV several times over the last few days to generate some interest but it is just so incredibly dull. Its just about brute force and every now and again some racing whippet that can run a bit, cant see any technical skills or flair whatsoever. Its fair to say ours is a football household, all 4 of us are albion season ticket holders, both my lads play sunday league footy and there is footy on the TV at some stage every day so its no surprise within a few minutes of the stop start Rugby being on everyone here has lost interest and we are switching over to the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A or even Grimsby v Forest Green Rovers anything but any more boring bloody Rugby! For all its flaws I'll take footy over a ball that doesn't even bounce properly any day. Dreadful sport, if its your bag youre welcome to it. Porto v Benfica or Marseille v Olympic Lyonnaise or Napoli v Lazio to choose from right now.

Respect for the ref and lack of whinging about decisions are things I think football could learn from rugby. More technology - no thanks. Goal-line is a no brainer but that's black and white. Everything else is too subjective and replays are often inconclusive for a quick decision. Retrospective action is better. Wouldn't mind a sin bin for 2 yellows to stop games being spoiled by petty fouls.

Spot on. I could not agree more.

I'd hope this current World Cup will prove to the "bring TV replays in" brigade exactly how UNWORKABLE it would be in soccerball.

As it goes, I'd say rugby league is a much better watch. Constantly on the move and the players are equally, if not more, rough, tough and everything else that appeals to the rugby crowd. It really puzzles me why Union - or 'kick and clap' as League fans call it - is more popular whereas in Australia, for instance, they're much bigger fans of the far more entertaining code. Simply because the influential people in this country support Union would be my guess, but I'm sure that view will get lambasted.

Oh Jesus! Does that mean at some stage we will have to suffer a Rugby League World Cup? God help us. Why on earth are there two bloody versions of this stupid game? Perhaps football could introduce this and have a version (sorry, code!) which dispenses with the offside rule, has no 18 or 6 yard box, mixed teams, 15 officials and TV decisions etc etc

Quite like the sport of rugby although never played myself. Both sons play a bit so slowly starting to understand the rules. Been to Dubai sevens a few times. Great game for many nationalities but something I'm not comfortable with is the holier than thou attitude of some English supporters. Facebook feed is full of wan-kers trying to make a point about how rugby is better than football especially after Costa's antics this weekend. Relax boys and enjoy your tournament. It'll never be as exciting than football in my eyes. Remember blood-gate and Dallaglio used to be an e-head.

Yeh, that aspect of the game bores me witless....yes ref, no ref, three bags bloody full ref!

It's all about sticking to the rules and off to the 'Sin Bin' because Nanny says you mustn't be naughty. It's all very public school, isn't it, right down to cuppng each other's ballsacs in the scrums...

If the game didn't have this then you'd have 30 man brawls every five minutes.

Well I plumped to watch Marseille v Lyon on BT Sport to get away from the rugby and what a match this is turning out to be. Dirty dirty game as the frogs kick lumps out of each other, Red card for a Marseille player that sent the home crowd mental. Match stopped for 20 minutes after fans pelted Lyon players with missiles after 60 mins, Marseille equalise with 10 men! Very very hostile atmosphere, would not want to be a Lyon fan in there. Some of the scenes are dreadful but I have to say its so much mor entertaining than the sterile Rugby.
