So, training camps .... will MJD hold-out into the season? How much of pre-season does he have to miss to start the season as slowly as Chris Johnson did a year ago?

Depends if MJD wants more money or wants out. If it's just about money I think the Jags will get it sorted pretty soon. If he wants out then I think the holdout will hurt his season quite a bit.

Those involved at PSU have acted in the most abhorrant way imaginable. The individuals have been punished in a court of law, and the football programme have been punished, by those who govern College Football. That all seems perfectly logical.

Whether that's by the letter of their juristiction or not, it would seem the right thing to do to me, and the "right thing to do" was long overdue in this matter. Not to you, clearly, but so be it. I applaud the NCAA, for what they've done.

Two weeks ago the NCAA said they were staying well out as this was a criminal investigation. You say the football program was well out of control, so take the wins away from that time period like they have.

This might not be the best analogy but here go's.

Think of business, a top ranking board members use the offices to rape a child and other board members who hear about it keep it quiet cause it wouldn't be good for business..

This all comes to light, Those board members are found out and duly arrested.

The Inland Revenue then decide to take it upon them selves to heavily fine the business as it seems the 'right thing to do'.


As you can see the above is ridiculous, would never happen as this criminal case would have nothing to do with the Inland Revenue or any form of Business regulator I could have used as an example. The case would have nothing to do with said business as an institution.



What should of happened is either PSU should have been allowed to make the first move in some sort of self imposed punishment (like OSU last year) or the NCAA should have waited for this to all play out and then see what they could do within their remit.

Different type of back so not so bad as CJ2K imo, but missing camp wont be good for him and the Jags. He's about all they have on offense. Wont be fun for Gabbert if he doesn't have him to hand off to.

Despite growing up with Channel 4's Sunday evening coverage in the 1980s and having watched the Brighton B52s on a couple of occasions, I'm a new convert to NFL and have been following the Houston Texans for a couple of seasons now. Was over in Houston twice in the last 3 months and am looking forward to getting back over there for at least one of the preseasons at Reliant Stadium.

Last year was the long-awaited breakthrough for the new franchise with the first Championship and post-season win despite the team being plagued with injuries. Divisionally-speaking, the season-long injury to Peyton Manning meant the Colts were always going to struggle, the Texans had a slight edge on the Jags in both games, and the Titans were kept at arms length. Not the strongest division for sure, but still coming out on top with a 10-6 record was great after a 9 year wait.

This season's looking very good. The young defence is outstanding - rookies like JJ Watt and Brooks Reed joining Brian Cushing and Connor Barwin meant that Mario was hardly missed last season. These guys could be together for another 5 seasons at least. Drafting Whitney Mercilus is going to add even more steel to the side. If they get the pass protection finally sorted, they'll be tough to break down.

The passing game could be a real concern if Schaub and/or Johnson pick up another injuries. 3rd choice QB TJ Yates did a great job towards the end of the season in getting the Texans over the line, but he's young and inexperienced. The running game is a banker for the Texans with Arian Foster showing he's as good as any over the last 2 seasons.

The Texans finished up 10-6 in 2011, but had been 10-3 and challenging for Home-Field Advantage. I can see the Texans having another winning season with 2 of the 3 tougher looking games being at home, namely Week 6 (Packers) and Week 7 (Ravens). Away at the Patriots in Week 14 looks very tough, but they may have done enough by then.

Despite all this, I'm pretty new to the sport all in all, so I'd be very interested to hear your impartial thoughts on the Texans chances this season.

Not long to go now, so here's to a enjoyable and successful season all round.

I sort of did, albeit from a considerable geographic distance. If I remember rightly, the QB at the time was Warren Moon.

Oh, and that Bills comeback still haunts the city even now...

Yes you're right it was Warren Moon. Her threw one of the prettiest balls of any QB I've ever seen.

The Oilers also had sweet uni's as well. Tennessee have just ruined them.

Totally agree with you Bladders...even as a Browns fan i really liked the oilers unis - & watching them play. Had some good battles with Kosars crew over the years.

Khan has publicly said today that MJD will not get a new deal this year. Tomorrow is the day the jags report for camp, do be interesting to see if he surprises all and shows up.

As a Jags fan I want him there at the start and ready for the season but also believe that Khan has done the right thing. Last year of contracts is when you start talking, it's his (& his agents) fault for signing a contract that lasted too long whilst he was still backing up the mighty Fred Taylor

Martellus Bennett, the new TE for the Giants, turned up for his first training camp. He’s the Giants biggest free-agent acquisition and can’t wait for opening night against his old team the Dallas Cowboys. I like his comment back in the spring when his weight of 291 pounds became an issue – “I look like Atlas, not Professor Klump”. He turned up wearing a Barcelona shirt – who says the Yanks don’t like soccer.

It’s sad that with all the current excitement and euphoria about the Olympics another NFL player has apparently committed suicide. Tennessee Titans WR O.J. Murdoch was found inside his car on Monday with what looks like self inflicted gunshot wounds. He’d had some injury problems but at 25 it seems very sad. This is on top of the 3 former NFL players who have committed suicide in the last 18 months
