Richard Branson did not demand that anyone take unpaid leave. The employees of Virgin Atlantic were asked by the CEO and senior leadership team to volunteer for 8 weeks of unpaid leave, one of three voluntary options offered, which the employees very happily took up. This was a move that has so far manged to stave off thousands of forced redundancies!! Richard Branson's first action was to put hundreds of millions of pounds into the Virgin Group which he is the owner of, which in turn owns 100s of companies that need help in the current climate. The villainisation of one person, who no longer is involved in the running of the airline, is a sure fire way to reduce the liklihood of the airline bouncing back after all this is over, which will end up costing everyone at Virgin their livelihoods! Which totally defeats the point of people defending the employees of Virgin Atlantic in the first place!
40 mile drive to drop off essentials?
There are schemes in place locally as well as online shopping options available. He has bent and stretched the rules to the point they’ve shattered.
He should resign.
Not one of them is British I’m told!!!
“None of the group — who were Croatian, German, French, Romanian and Ukrainian — had a valid reason for travelling to the area during the coronavirus pandemic, according to BFM TV.”
Official Government info leaflet :
"People who are 70 and over, or those who have an
underlying health condition, are likely to be more seriously
affected. It is even more important that you protect yourself
now by following the advice above.
If you are at very high risk due to a serious underlying health condition,
you should have already received a letter from the NHS containing
specifc guidance about what to do.
If you need shopping or medication, ask family, friends or neighbours
to drop these at the door, or if possible, order online. Use NHS online
services or the NHS App to book appointments or order repeat
prescriptions – only phone if this is not possible."
If he did what he said, he's well within the Government's published rules, and off the hook it seems.
The distance of the drive has no relevance in this case.

Anybody mentioned this bunch of c-units yet?
A group of would-be holidaymakers who flew in a private jet from London to the Côte d’Azur in France have been turned back by police.
Seven men and three women arrived on the chartered aircraft to Marseille-Provence airport, where helicopters were waiting to fly them on to Cannes, where they had rented a luxury villa.
The men, aged 40-50, and women, aged 23-25, were refused permission to enter France and ordered by police to fly back to the UK.

Agreed, more so in fact!
On the contrary, the distance is entirely relevant.
It makes it all the more likely that there was an alternative option available within a much closer proximity to Jenrick’s parents. These are listed in your quoted information.
He bent the rules and should resign.
