Jane Challenger-Gillett breathed in and then spat at officers who attended her home in Roundhill Terrace, Brighton.
The University of Brighton senior lecturer, also known as Jane Challenger-Gillitt, appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court and admitted two offences.
It was revealed she was in breach of a community order for abusing and assaulting officers who responded to a disturbance in October.
On April 1 she spat at PCs Alexander Ferguson and Stuart Ellis.
But she was spared a prison sentence because she is the sole carer for a “vulnerable” partner and has been battling an alcohol problem.

Pretty diplomatic there. There are morons that would argue that street parties are not acceptable. People doing that are fukken pondlife in terms of intellectual capacity.
Tbh the world would be better off without people like this, it’s unfortunate that they will take the hospital bed of someone more deserving. Those offending should have their NHS records noted so they are last in the queue for treatment.

People use 'alcohol problem' to justify all sorts, from racist abuse at the football to assaulting or even killing their partner. I have never accepted that. If you are a ****, then having a drink may embolden you to act like a ****. But for that to happen you have to be a **** in the first place.

Very much this, at different times I have drunk heavily, very heavily yet still remain the same mild mannered person, but highly likely to fall asleep rather than start fighting.
She sounds like a complete **** , probably could also afford a good lawyer.

Life is rarely as simple. It says she's her partner's only carer. Having spent most of my adolescence living with my mother's terminal illness and seeing my dad fail to cope with the pressure and hit the bottle I've seen first hand how that combination can break someone.
Obviously that's no excuse for her behaviour and she was probably a bit livewire to start with - as you say HWT something needs to already exist inside you before the alcohol is added - but there must be mitigating factors here otherwise she'd be spending time at Her Majesty's pleasure.
That said, if it was some 18 year old urchin off the estate with that record he'd be locked up and people would be calling to throw away the key!

I am not knocking anyone for slipping into the comforting seas of booze. But I would knock someone for twice doing what she's done.
The reason she got off was the 'carer' responsibility, that's all. No mitigation, just the adverse effect on someone in her care if she were banged up. And to me that adds to her culpability. Obviously educated, well paid, with a responsibility....it was becoming a parent and gaining a sacred responsibility that made me give my head a wobble.....

Cheers, it's all long gone now. Probably not far off TBH, when I was a bit older we nearly came to blows a couple of times over his behaviour.
I'm not sticking up for her, but I tend to think there's a cause and a story behind everyone's actions. I look at that and think how does an educated woman with a respectable job end up in these situations, something is very very wrong. WTF must be going through her mind to self destruct like this.
That's fair enough. Life can be tough for people, but when they start taking it out on others, that's not excusable. If it can be nipped in the bud, good. This woman is in her 50s though. I looked her up. She's on Facebook.
I actually did have the police round when I was a teenager, but my dad (the cause) didn't drink at all.
And I still make excuses for him.....
