TB's right the slo-mo does Cav no favours.
He's been done for less and got away with worse.
It looks like one of those things as Cav was responding to Kittel and cut the line too soon.

Why didn't he go with Stegman's, I know Stat said he was going like a train, but Cav was freewheeling when Stegmans went, I think he just made the wrong call...the shoulder to shoulder was in frustration that even at that point he knew it was gone as he had the wrong wheel once Veeler's slowed.

I just the Stegmans was too fast too soon, Cav would have in the front for a very long time.
GS did nothing once in front, I doubt he knew Cav wasn't there.

What will happen if they find him at fault ? New to this tour thing.
Depending on the severity but most likely:-

Demoted to the back of the bunch.
Followed by
Demoted to last place for the day.
As above a loss of all points
and finally ejected...

...Pause while I set up a favourite Tour highlight.

Turns out headbutts and bottle luzzing is really frowned upon.

Well, the race referee can do one of several things. Worst-case scenario is he can be thrown out of the race. He could be 'relegated' to last on the stage (and lose his sprint points for this finish), he could be fined, or no action could be taken. These are the most likely things, although as it's down to the UCI they could make up some new rules without telling anyone and make him ride the time trial on a penny-farthing (which would be my preferred course of action!)

Honestly, I doubt any action will be taken. But it's the UCI.... (I know this doesn't help newbies, but seriously - the world governing body of our sport is weird mental!)

Oh not good then it did look like he had a good old shove in anger.

Straight away I have to admit I own a pretty big pair of Cav googles.

I don't see it as an angry shove.
Veelers was going quicker than Cav thought/Cav wasn't going as quick as he thought.
Cav was zoned in on Kittel, he was clearly reacting to MK jump.

It's tough to judge these things, in any sport, in slow-motion.

As said he's been far more petulant in the past, I don't see it that badly this time.

Just had a few more watches with googles.

Veelers pulls some distance out to the left, as Cav makes his move.
Then watch Veelers position in relation to the white line.

Cav hits him on the right hand side of the line.

That's a fair distance and a couple of seconds between Veelers giving up out to the left, and contact on the right side of the line.

Your witness, m'lud.

Fair enough did look a little deliberate though.

Cav's line is reasonably true, and certainly straighter than Veelers, until after the collision.

I'm not too sure being on the same side as the commissaries is a good thing

ITV4 +1 NOW if you haven't seen the highlights, (well when I say now I mean at 8:45).

Let me just say:-

I believe I had that one!!

Also got to love the 'come out swinging approach'.

and I'm not sure how happy Matt Rendell will be to have his questions described as bland

Oh and been meaning to say for a few days, I'm now pretty much in bed with Eurosport P & P just p me off.

With my engine-included hat on, that would go down as a racing incident in most observers' books. You have to be pretty lairy to be pulled up for a foul.
