UNITED AGAINST COVID-19
December 15, 2021 | By Billy Wood

Hastings United Football Club are working in partnership with East Sussex County Council and the local NHS to help continue to fight against Covid-19 by opening The Continental Pilot Field on match days for anyone aged 16 and over who needs to get their 1st , 2nd or booster vaccine.

Billy Wood, CEO: “Covid cases are continually high across the county and we feel it’s our duty to do what we can to help reach as many that want the vaccination as possible. Over 70% of people eligible in Hastings have had two doses, however this still puts us 163 out of 181 in all authority districts in England.

We appreciate not everyone wants to get the vaccine and as a club will not discriminate against that, however we have been hugely affected by Covid-19 with two seasons lost when top of the league and it would be disastrous to go back into another lockdown. We are happy to support the NHS roll out of the vaccine with pop ups at Men’s Home games starting with this Saturday vs Ramsgate.”

We will also be offering free entry to those who are turning up for the vaccine, you will register at the gate and be taken to the designated vaccine centre, ID will be required.

A marvellous gesture in my opinion, a Covid jab followed by free football, what's not to like?

Luckily for me I work with a Southport fan, so I’m on the 10:03 out of Kings Cross to see them take on the mighty Farsley Celtic, followed by a trip to FC Romania on Sunday

Rape of Hastings, Sussex
I'm just back from a cold Pilot Field where Hastings United saw off Ramsgate 2-0 in front of another very impressive crowd of 1073 to move up to 3rd and within a point of top spot in the Isthmian South East as league leaders Cray Valley PM lost at home to Lancing. Haywards Heath up to 4th now as well following a 2-1 at home to Sevenoaks.

Worthing 3-0 Lewes

884 in attendance which given the kind of year, pandemic, and it being a minor competition (although it's my favourite competition on earth) is very impressive

Lewes struggled to get going really and Worthing were comfortably the better team.

In a pile of football shirts
Steyning got a much needed boost with a win away to Loxwood, 2-3 FT, think they’ll be delighted with that.

How this game finished, I will never know, literally the foggiest game I have ever been to in my life. A big win for Southport, I was disgustingly drunk and got fully behind the yellows, football is truly the beautiful game. Football at the end of the world vibes.

Went to Peacehaven v Lingfield today. Close match but Lingfield got a late winner and probably deserved their victory. The home supporters were angry at a lot of the ref’s decisions and when the away team scored it prompted a cry of “oi ref I’m surprised you’re not celebrating with them”. You get wonderful banter at these matches.

Yep, completely fair result. We felt for Ayo Olukoga who was hooked after half an hour of consistent beration from the away dugout, by which point the Rooks were already two behind. Poor kid looked really crestfallen.

Woodside Road really is a lovely place to watch football.

it's a great ground yes. Would be interesting to see what they'd need to do with it if they do get a couple of promotions, there's not much room to expand!

South Central Southwick
AFC Southwick 3, Lindfield 2 at Whitehawk including an incredible banana inswinger corner goal from midfield maestro Ross Myers. Crowd of about 40 at our developing project included a bloke actually from Manchester who supported Man U and came because of the Rangnick connection, a lady from Reading, a bloke from Bulgaria and TJ and Bungle from our new sponsors, new generation punks Bar Stool Preachers. Still unbeaten at our temporary home and amused by the amount of publicity generated by the Rangnick story. Moving up the Mid Sussex League Premier and hoping to be back in the pyramid from whence the old club came next season at Step 6 in Southern Combination Division 1.

Apparently to be deemed adequate enough for the next step Worthing would have to install around another 80 seats. Floodlights, which were upgraded in the first lockdown, are good enough and there is now a provision for a segregated area for visiting supporters if the need arises with opening up of an old turnstile and the new refreshment hut and toilet block.
The plan is to put a new stand down the North side of the ground (the dug out side) with funding hopefully coming from sponsorship and grants.
As clubs move up the pyramid more grants became available from the FA to help support ground improvements.

so I guess the north-east section would be the away end if needed? there is a bit of space behind the terracing on the north side so could be a bit of room for an alright sized stand
