Or, indeed Rwanda.

Calm down old boy. @Questions is simply full of questions today.

Here are some more to ponder.

Pope, or Popeye?
Which way is up?
Guess what I'm thinking right now?

Why did I drink that fifth large glass of wine when I know I've got work in the morning?

P.S. Questions are posed seeking answers. There is no moral (or otherwise) requirement to provide the answer the person who posed the question wanted!

“I think everyone who disagrees with me should be deported” is an unusual take, I’ll give you that
Deported? No - no such thing suggested - maybe read my post more carefully. If you don't like where you are, moving somewhere else is obviously a solution.

If you don't like where you are, but want to stay, in spite of the Government, the weather, VAR, Brexit and the royalty - then please stay and welcome. But remember - that is YOUR choice to do so.

All national anthems are rubbish. It's like the best man's speech at a wedding - you expect it to be rubbish, you just hope it's short rubbish not everlasting rubbish. At least ours is short.

If people don't like God Save The King because it mentions a God in whom they don't believe and a King who they would rather replace, then would Jerusalem be any better? It mentions the same God, in the form of Jesus, and the foreign capital of a nation that they probably hate. Not much improvement there!

.. and go and live in Rwanda ?

Reminds me of the sort of rhetoric directed towards anyone not white who has an issue with the country. "If you don't like it f@@@ off home to wherever..."

Poster had a very bad moment there and might wish to reflect.

To be fair to @BadFish I think he did **** off to the other side of the world, unfortunately for him he chose a country thats still just about loyal to our royalty with an immigration policy that Suella Braverman can only dream of! :lolol:
I know right, I guess GT49ers suggestion would be that if I don't like Australia's immigration policy I should f*** off somewhere else.

Still much like the UK ,there is a lot to like and t is a bit weird to suggest living elsewhere because of one or two issues.

We are yet to have another referendum but my guess at present is that the rest of Australia shares my sentiment about the royal family. So perhaps i have chosen well (y)

Or they can hold a different opinion to you and it's all fine, no one needs to f*** off or get sweary about it.

It's a dirge about a god who doesn't exist saving a King who shouldn't exist.

A no from me.
And only actually mentions the country once, in a later verse that usually isn't sung.

"I don't like the National Anthem". For years the subject of great comedy routines, famously the great Billy Connolly. Many questions over the years about what should be played at England national sports events. Good old and very English debate, akin with the issue the Church of England with George as a patron saint.

What is it to be English, when we don't have a nation anthem ? What is it to be English when we celebrate a non national mythical figure, who clearly didn't kill a dragon.

Response ? Go and live in Ruanda.

The utter state of this country post Brexit.
If I remember correctly, Billy Connolly suggested that the National Anthem should be replaced by the theme from The Archers!😁

I prefer the Lichtenstein version.....

High above the young Rhine

Lies Liechtenstein, resting

On Alpine heights.

This beloved homeland,

This dear fatherland

Was chosen for us by

God's wise hand.

Long live Liechtenstein,

Blossoming on the young Rhine,

Happy and faithful!

Long live the Prince of the Land,

Long live our fatherland,

United by brotherly bonds and free!

To the tune of Tom Hark?

I nor anyone I know has much time for the royal family - couldn't give a s*** about all that b0llocks. Quite happy to live here and ignore it all though, although it's hard to when a royal wedding or something is nearing 🤮

The British National Anthem (GSTK) is a boring dirge. The English haven't got a national anthem, and all the suggestions that usually get put forward are equally awful, not least being 'Land of Hope and Glory', which is also about Britain, not England. 'Jerusalem' is the best of a (very) bad bunch, although a good shout-out to BensGrandad's suggestion of 'There'll always be an England'.

And no, I'm not going to go and live in Rwanda. This is my home.

Re this thread and the comments…

Nothing would make me want to go Republican.

I love the royal family, I’m just very sorry that they let the Queen down so badly when she was alive.

I’m fine with GSTK

That Billy Connolly routine is fantastic. And I too think the theme from 'The Archers' would be great as a national anthem. And yes, along with our foreign patron saint, the tune to the National Anthem is also foreign as it's German. Mind you the German national anthem has a Danish tune.

Anyway, I think most countries NAs are pretty poor; the two exceptions being France and America. And the Americans stole a march on us as the tune to 'The Star Spangled Banner' is actually English! Why couldn't we have used it first?

If only people had the right to move to 27 European countries eh?

Well yes, so long as you don't satrt bemoaning it and burbling on about what a terrible place Engand is and all that, I suppose. TBF, the second and third verses are pretty awful! (and I guess that's why they're never sung!)

....and anyway, it's not nearly such a dirge as 'Flower of Scotland'..................................................
I’m a royalist…. And I think it’s shit. Does that help.

I would describe myself as a Republican, but the reason I don't like GSTK is not the subject matter but the fact it’s so drearily dull.
Give me La Marseillaise any day for a an inspiring anthem…… but the words are fairly bloodthirsty and nasty if you go in to it.

It’s lyrics are about deference to a self-serving, apex/establishment cabal. It’s tune is a dirge. A great song writing nation can definitely come up with a decent, inspiring tune and words that speak to all of us and not a tax-dodging Elite.

I loathe the national anthem and walked out when it was last played at Falmer. I don't want him to long reign over me.

But, if you like it, good for you.

Each to their own, and all that.
