Life in Units from Blood Sport is an interesting album. It combines African guitar hooks and rhythms but has a very dark edge to them. The band are from Sheffield and so quite fittingly there's an industrial feel to the music. The singing is sort of Ian Curtis(ish) or a better comparison I suppose given his love of Fela Kuti would be David Byrne. The genre of music is called aggrobeat apparently - I'm guessing a deliberate play on afrobeat but reflects the antagonistic nature of the lyrics/singing. I can't think there's too many bands out there playing this kind of music so perhaps a bit unnecessary to invent a subgenre just for them. It sounds great though.
