Silly old bat
Wait until they find out that the guy who started the more than two genders nonsense in the mid 50s was a pro-pedo quack.

John Money is where that weirdness grew from.
The mid 50s?
Quentin Crisp was born in 1908 for starters.

I 'll never forget The Daily Mirror referring to " leader and master of Germany " Adolf Hitler as " a Man of the people " in their exclusive interview with him published 29th February 1936 . I know it was a long time ago but I haven't peeped at the commierag since .

You are going back a long way there with the WW2 reference!! So you haven't read it since the 80s but have an opinion on what they publish? The nasty racist DM who were brave enough to call the Stephen Lawrence killers out as 'murderers.'
One doesn’t need to read it to see it on a newsstand and see the front page and their paranoid divisive inflammatory headlines - the “Traitors” for supreme court judges, for example, a few years ago. And stuff they print regularly gets aired elsewhere - like here on this thread, for example.

The concept of gender as used today did not start to appear until the 1950s

Prior to that man was to male as woman was to female.

To highlight how much of a nothing concept it was the following data was found during an article's research.

"In COHA it is recorded from the 1830s, but until the end of the 1950s its frequency remains low—under one occurrence per million words of text. In the 1960s the frequency rises to (just) over one use per million words, and there’s a further very slight increase in the 1970s. It isn’t until the 1980s that there’s a larger jump to more than five uses per million words."

COHA is Corpus of Historical American English.

That's how little the word gender was used.

Quentin Crisp had nothing to do with this evolution. John Money however...

To quote the Kinsey Institute

In 1966, Dr. Money founded the Gender Identity Clinic at Johns Hopkins University and started an extensive research program on the psychohormonal treatment of paraphilias and on sex reassignment. Money formulated, defined, and coined the term "gender role" and later expanded it to gender-identity/role (G-I/R).

Wow. Have you heard of history?

This has been a known part of human behaviour since the Ancient Greeks were knocking about.

I literally just quoted you history. The history of written word. How did you miss that part?

Gender played little part in history because it wasn't a concept that meant anything. It's why they rarely wrote about it...

The Ancient Greeks recorded their gender concepts. From theatre to their social constructs. It was a fundamental element of their culture. Many of the words we use to describe gender and sexuality have their etymology in the Greek language.

It’s very well documented. How else do you think we know about it?

Not trying to pick an argument, it’s just that you’re wrong on this .

The daily mail is a repulsive, xenophobic, right wing rag. As for Stephen Lawrence I’ll think you”ll find the DM wasn’t the only paper digging into the story. From memory Private Eye opened the box and the main stream papers picked up on it.
Repulsive because you disagree wit
You do realise I had to read the article in the OP to précis it in my post?

How’s the traffic wardening going?
How is the total intolerance to anyone who disagrees with you going?

Then aside from the Greeks, you've got the long-documented history of transgenderism in South East Asia and the Hijra in India. Plus thousands of years of Eunuchs (obviously, some didn't have much say in that). To say that men were men and women were women until the 50s is just silly.

You ARE in the minority HERE. You’re on the message board for Brighton and Hove Albion, a city with two Labour and one Green MP, a Labour council and that voted Remain. Most of us won’t wipe our ‘arrises with the DM.

Snob. Would you go to a working mans club in Boro and spout your snobby rhetoric? No thought not.

The Ancient Greeks only had two genders though. Because it was a Patriarchal society if a man was pushed into a traditional female role they would be seen as "feminine". They still only believed in men and women however.

They also happened to be hedonistic and bat shit crazy.

But what of all the other cultures that are nothing like the Greeks, were they wrong?

You didn't read it properly did you.

The concept of how gender is viewed in 2023 is only a recent thing.

In all those examples you provided there are still only men and women. Trans has zero to do with gender.

If a man thinks they are a woman or vice versa they are still one of the two options available.

It's not like there aren't trans people who think there are only two genders.

pointing out the the mail is a nasty rag is not intolerance, merely a fact based observation as evidanced by the many bigoted headlines provided by said paper.

It's not in the sand. Yes it is intolerance, many on here are. BTW it's 'evidenced.'
