The positive to Hammond signing on loan is we won't have to watch Harley on the pitch.

Exactly. Naylor was pretty good the last few hours.

Yes but i believe he turned his personal vendetta against NSC into an attack on ordinary fans. I never believed Bobby Zamora would return tonight but then Naylor gave hope with his stupid tweet.

I am now pretty p*ssed off.

Me too. Was neither for or against the guy before tonight but after him
breaking the Hammond signing as the end of the long wait I think he's a goon.

I'd gained some respect for him tonight- he does have his sources and journos nowadays are up against the might of twitter and such, there's tens of thousands of us and only one of him. Moreover he can't piss off the club and break a story he knows is about to happen, unlike us. But that tweet is a perfect example of why he has no respect from Albion fans. The man is not stupid, he knows what the general opinion of Hammond is and "the wait is over" implied to me a target man. "Familar face" implied Zamora or Murray. Now whilst anyone with half a brain cell knew it wouldn't be Zamora, and I for one didn't want Murray, he was just being a cock for the sake of it and abusing his position of prior knowledge. Then he wonders why he gets stick. He has a permanent chip on his shoulder about Albion, often slagging off or patronising the fans in his columns, and as already said, he destroyed any semblance of respect he might have gained within an hour. Tinpot hack when compared to Brian Owen.

Piss poor journalism. What a dreadful choice of words; almost as though he were setting us up for a fall. Oh yes, we've all been waiting for bloody Dean Hammond. Poor.

piss poor attempt at a dig tbh - he was clearly suckered in at the end of a marathon session thinking Albion were bound to save the best to last and therefore assuming it was the target man that Gus has been banging on about non stop and has then failed to sign. Inexplicable really.

Maybe Gus thought they had kept the most important if not the best until last. He could certainly be pivotal to our season and is a better player - more experienced and more consistent IMO - than Trotter

All in I think everyone at Albion and the Argus comes out with more plusses than negatives

Naylor led us on for sure.

It would be churlish and ridiculous to criticise the signings that came in today, especialy when you look at it in addition to what Gus had already brought in through the summer. But Naylor (presumably intentionally) raised expectations an extra notch or two with his "statement of intent by 11pm" and particularly "the long wait could be over" tweets. He knew precisely who everyone would be feverishly speculating over off the back of that, and no doubt he got the desired result. But all he ended up achieving was (slightly) deflating a lot of fans DESPITE the excellent business done in this window.

You could say anyone expecting you-know-who off the back of those tweets was unrealistic or deluded, but then I'd never have dreamt of seeing the likes of Bridge or Vicente here, and with the HUGE influx at QPR this week it was hardly completely out of the realms for some kind of loan deal to be struck.

I'll reiterate I am NOT disappointed with our signings tonight at all, we've bought some fantastic quality in. Shame Naylor had to be a bit of a tit amongst it though.

Don't you think his comment related to all signings and that perhaps the wait for news or even promotion to the BPL may soon be over.

Give the guy a break !

Yes - the club. The Albion's media team were spoon-feeding him the news, allowing him to appear in the know which, to a degree, he was of course. That's not a criticism of the man, I'd do the same in his position.

I'd been told much earlier in the evening that 2 deals were done and a third was being worked on. I was also requested not to share that information as it was clear most Albion fans were expecting just the one signing this evening - a striker.

When Naylor was tweeting about the 3rd signing he didn't know who it was - the club hadn't toid him. I don't think it's unreasonable to have expected the signings to be announced in order of magnitude, but the truth is the club were scrambling on the Hammond deal, given they had hands full with 2 other deals, and it only got done with a small amount of time to spare.

Absolutely. And who did THAT big hint point towards ?

Not Dean bloody Hammond thats for sure.

The club had spoon-fed him the first two signings. They'd not done that with the third - probably because it was such a close-run thing and a deal might not have been done. I don't think it was unreasonable for him to take a bit of a guess that a decent striker was going to complete the set today. He got unlucky.

Naylor said on Twitter that he was surprised at the 3rd deal and thought it would be a target man. I guess it must have been built up by the club but you can't criticise Naylor for that.

Hope everyone draws breath tomorrow and focuses on the quality and type of players that have joined us over the summer and today.

As an aside, is this the best midfield we have ever had? So much competition in depth too.

So, the long wait could be over?? Guess that it's not, Andy. My long wait was for Zamora or a better striker to join the albion. I guess your long wait was for that tosser Hammond to join. Last time I bother with you or your paper #pissedoff
