'The long wait could soon be over' - Naylor

On reflection, I think the "statement of intent" is more a comment on the fact the club is made three signings, and indication that they recognised the needs in the squad and were doing something about it, rather than any one signing. So I think he was right with that.

The long wait quote though, I can't explain, other than it (coupled with later revelations) suggests that he only knows what the club wants him to know, which isn't what I think most fans want from the local journo, especially Brighton fans with our history.

His comments this morning would support this theory.

To Naylor it is a job. In some respects they do not want a 100% die hard Albion fan in the job (I think he supports Stoke) simply because it's about professionalism and not fanaticism.
Most of the people on here would struggle due to the "Passion" they have for the Albion. The Albion and the Argus use Naylor and anyone else in the job as a trumpet to shout out what they want us to hear.
Sites like NSC are not what they like. They have no control. They give no financial support (?) to the site and occasionally give Bozza a tip if it's something they think his posters will want to hear.

If you want to hear the official go there or the Argus, if you want a load of old BS mixed in with rumour, a sense of humour and the odd nugget of truth you know where to come!

Good post.

The thought didn't enter my head until Naylor started bleating on about "long waits" and "statements of intent". Hammond, for all his qualities as a player, is not someone whose return we were eagerly awaiting, nor does his signing constitute a "statement of intent" at this level ("good bit of business" is as far as I'd go, and that's being charitable). The only player I could think of who would fit those criteria is Bobby.

It's like telling a kid they're getting the best games console ever for christmas. It's got amazing graphics, they're just going love it, they'll be totally blown away by its awesome power. They'll get all excited about their upcoming PS3/ Xbox, of course there's going to be disappointment when they realise you've got them an Atari Jaguar.

If it hadn't been for Naylor being a prick, I would have been overjoyed by yesterdays business. As it is, I'm disappointed, just because Naylor led me to expect something even better, which was never on the cards. It was clearly deliberate, which has further diminished him in my eyes- he's a petty, nasty bit of work to do this.

Really I mean really??

Are you actually going to say anything I can reply to? It's not clear what your problem is with my post. Is it that I got carried away with Naylor's "long wait" post? Cos I'm not the only one, far from it.

Edit: Can I just check- did you honestly think that "long wait" tweet was about Hammond? If not, who did you think it was about?

Have only read AN's original post once but simply understood it to mean a promotion push could now be started and Premier League football will soon be appearing at an AMEX Stadium somewhere near Brighton. If there was more to it, then it passed me by.

My initial thought, as I said at the time, was that he was talking about the wait for a marquee signing: I then got swept away with the Zamora thing on here and Twitter. Either way, the result's the same. Surely if Naylor knew he was talking about Hammond, he was deliberately winding us up. We were built up to expect something massive, and Naylor knew most of us wouldn't see Hammond's return as that.

Just to be clear, I'm very happy with the day's business, just not with Naylor.

My feelings too; interestingly, his toxic 'tweet' has now been deleted, as though it never happened. Thought that journalists were supposed to be accountable for what they write? Poor.

i dont have a problem - i just find it amazing that people thought bobby zamora was going to sign for us last night even after AN tweet. I had no idea who the 3rd signing was, when AN tweeted "long wait" i assumed he meant the final signing of the day after a long wait eg been waiting all day for news and signings. I would have been surprized if Poyet had signed and out and out striker as he never plays 442 and i dont think he has ever had the intention of using a target man with CMS.

I really dont get why people are so angry and dissapointed with AN or DH. Look at what actually happened yesterday. There were some great signings.

Orlandi =Knows this league good replacement for Noone
Dobbie = Knows this league can score goals (Blackpool fans pissed off he hasnt signed for them)
Lopez = I have no idea but cant be a mug as over 180 games in la liga
Hammond = better than Harley and Dicker and captained a side that won this league last season.

Re your previous post i am not sure what you want in your christmas box - but i was very very happy with what happened yesterday.

The only way we will ever see Zamora back in the current climate is if we are in the Premiership.

Not a huge Naylor fan myself but he did a fair job last night.

I think he should have considered his words more carefully when it came to the "drum roll" tweet.

He did open himself up to some (possibly unfair) criticism. I think most people, whilst getting a bit carried away with the idea of BZ returning, were a little let down at the final reveal, especially given the history.

If it turns out he did know it was Hammond then he's a ****.:annoyed:

I agree with what you're saying about the signings (except that Saints didn't win the league last year, Reading did), I just didn't appreciate Naylor's buildup given that it was inevitable most people would see Hammond as an anticlimax. I'm very happy with Orlandi, Dobbie, and Lopez, and I'm sure I'll forgive Hammond if the performances are good enough, but the way Naylor built it up, I was expecting the final signing of the day to be the most impressive. In my view, it was the least impressive. Not only do a lot of other fans apparently see it that way, but Naylor surely knew we would. So why build it up so much?

Edit: and re the craziness of the idea of Zamora playing for us now, I never would have considered it without Naylor's tweets. But is it so much more unbelievable than having players like Bridge, Saltor and of course Vicente in the stripes? This is a club where crazy things happen wonderfully often!

Zamora signing for us is a crazy idea though. QPR only signed him in January for £5 million, and he is on £50,000 a week. He is also starting matches for them, so it is incongruous to think he would drop a division, take an 80% pay cut, and QPR would accept a loss of probably at least £3 million.

Absolutely. The past two years have been unbelievable given the nature of events at our wonderful club since the 90's. Lots of people seem to be saying that people shouldn't be upset blah blah as we've bought this player and that player. Personally i am over the moon with our new signings. The problem i have is totally with Naylor and does not detract from my feelings about our new players.
