Hoping to get along to the instore signing in March.

On a separate note- going to see Italia 90 Friday at Latest Music Bar

I've seen Porridge Radio a couple of times. Bit disappointed with the last one tbh. Will be interested to hear what you make of Italia 90. The singer has, shall we say, a 'strong' look, but they seem sound. The vocals are a bit monotone and repetitive (deliberately) but very powerful stuff. Expect a bit of punk moshing.

It was second time I’d seen them the first being at the old haunt as part of a great escape weekend. They have been releasing most of their stuff digitally in an e.p format. They have some catchy stuff and I know what you mean by repetitive. Got lively towards the end when they played New Factory. Some poor girl got an elbow in the face. These days I hide at the back and don’t get involved. Dreadful local support band who had brought lots of friends along who seem more interested in talking throughout Italia 90. Which then became shouting to make themselves heard. 40 minutes or so later and it was all over, a good length for their style.

especially her.

You've got it! Even when they couldn't really play, she was just as brilliant. Does emotions of all descriptions incredibly well, which makes it a bit love/hate I guess but my wager is enough people are going to love it.

That local Squid band I was banging on about on here almost exactly two years ago doing alright for themselves as well. Big rumour doing the rounds they are signing to Warp, which would be a massive coup for both parties.

And Penelope Isles ended up on Bella Union.

Mrs. Mahone and I went upstairs at Patterns last Thursday - first time I have been up there for years - Normanton Street were playing, and were excellent. Phoebe Freya has a truly beautiful voice.

Next up, The Murder Capital in Sheffield this Saturday. Anyone else going to that after the football?

I particularly admire your planning. I'm yet to look for a gig to supplement an away match, let alone organise one.

I cocked one up spectacularly October 1994.

American Music Club in Bristol on the Friday night then clubbing.

Bristol Rovers away on the Saturday.

I was a bit worse for wear on the Saturday ended up at The Recreation Ground rather than Twerton Park by mistake. Didn't realise until I found myself on the terrace with a beer in my hand looking at a rugby pitch.

Bath 20 Leicester 20, (Bristol Rovers 3 Brighton 0).

Pogue Junior is at Sheffield University, and I decided some time ago to do this as a weekender. We regularly do gigs together, amd so I was delighted to find out that The Murder Capital were at The Leadmill (I visited quite often years ago) on the same day as the game. He also likes them. No braimer!

Saw Murder Capital at End of the Road, with mini- and Mrs Mac in the front. They put on a real show.

I have had to resort to earplugs in recent years as I found the tinnitus after gigs getting worse. If you buy the musicians ones, they help filter out the worst of the noise while still being able to hear the music properly rather than just dulling everything.

I use some metal ones called Flare Audio that my wife bought me, I have to put them in fairly lose or they cut too much out, but they seem to stop deafness afterwards and allow good sound through.

At the UK SUBS last con club gig end of 2019, I had my first ever bought of ringing so have used them more recently. I would prefer some that fit better in the ear.

Can anyone else recommend a decent pair that they use that both protect and allow good sound.

I'm doing this 'double header' too. Also saw The Murder Capital in Portsmouth last night. Absolutely outstanding.

I bought a pair after a very loud Swans show in London a few years ago. I’ve been going to gigs for 35 years but this one freaked me out a bit due to the noise and my location in the venue. I don’t wear them often but take them along to gigs that I know could be punishing. I’ve since worn only once at a Sunn O))) gig and they were definitely needed. I have plugs by a company called Alpine which are available from amazon and have a lot of good user reviews.

A couple of years ago I saw 'God Speed you Black Emperor' at the Dome, after one track I walked out and took a pair of the free spongey earplugs for the rest of the gig.

I will check those out. A lot of people wear these flatter musicians ones, didnt know if they were better than what I have been trying. I agree though, gigs at places like the Hope and Ruin seem fine. Subs must have had the PA cranked up full.

Have now completed my gig a week line up for March with Bad//Dreems @ the Hope on March 12. Really good indie-rock/punk band from Australia. Some songs have the fire of an Idles/Fontaines DC but with less shouty vocals and other songs are just hook-heavy and melodic.

Also have Frank Turner @ the Dome next week, Anvil @ Chalk and Saxon @ Hammersmith at the end of the month. Pictish Trail is @ the Hope on the 29th too.

For any metalheads on here local death metallers Enslavement have a launch gig for their debut album Filth @ the Albert on Sunday and that album is an absolute banger, recommended.

He was hinting Brighton was on the cards a couple of months ago. I’ve already got tickets for London but will definitely be at this as well.

Saw Moses Boyd last night. Had the very good fortune to be right at the front and right to the side of the man himself; watching him perform at close quarters (two feet away) is absolutely mesmerizing. Gig was just material form his brilliant new album plus an encore. Special mention to the guy on keys...he made some lovely noises....and has an excellent name in Renata Paris.

I also bagged a limited edition vinyl of the album and chatted to the man himself.

A lovely evening.
