I was there, but was somewhat underwhelmed by it all. I realise that you can't exactly compare them to Bruce Springsteen or Jackson Browne and am used to analysing the lyrics and the quality of the musicianship at a concert. I thought that some of the 'songs' were a little elongated, and wondered whether I watching musicians or IT specialists. I'm glad that I went, but suffice to say that if they rang my doorbell this morning, I'd pretend that I was out. In their defence, I wear prescription glasses and the 3D element completely by passed me. Having said that, I'd take musical content over graphics anytime.

That's the shitness of the Brighton Centre for you. We were near the front (row E ) and the sound was pretty good throughout.
What were the visuals like further back? Felt like the spaceLab was going to land on us!
Hope your lad enjoyed it, mine did and I've now tried to explain to him not every gig is alike that. Maybe I'll take him to see The Fall next to bring him back down to earth.
Next up Buffalo Tom on Friday with Thurston Moore and Kraftwerk at the RAH later in the month.

I think you've said you're lad 7 or 8? I'd love to know what a 7/8 year old makes of Mark E Smith and his on-stage antics.

I thought the Kraftwerk concert was Epic. I have followed them for 40 years. The Tour De France and Trans Europe Express section was the best for me. The visuals and 3d were unique and great. It was pretty much flawless, visuals and the music. It did not achieve the heights of Jean Michel Jarre at the Brighton Centre last year who's show set the benchmark for future concerts with the sound and visuals but it was a privilege to be there. It rated a 92 out of 100

My boy, who's 10, seemed to enjoy it but was a bit overwhelmed by it all -- a late night, and the sensory overload of the gig probably contributed -- so will try and tease out his thoughts (something that becomes increasingly difficult) over the next few days. We're taking him to Green Man, so he'll get plenty of exposure there.
I'm off to see Thurston too and am very much looking forward to it, but not as much as Richard Dawson -- Peasant might just be my AotY so far and his live performances are supposed to exceed his recordings.

Kraftwerk were superb last night, despite the sound being far too low for the majority of the evening.

I've got Radiohead tomorrow in Stockholm then GnR at the Olympic stadium the week after.

Was considering Alt-J at the Brighton Centre in September but just hate the venue. I made an exception for Kraftwerk but I'd rather travel to a venue in London then go there.

My lad (who is 13 Herr T) also really enjoyed it. I think he was also a bit overwhelmed with it all which is hardly surprising. His main comments were about how loud the bass was and the risk of an epileptic fit because of the lights!

After months of deliberation I have decided to see Jackson Browne at the Royal Albert hall on 25 June. I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that although he's years past his best, even if he were on a life support machine, he'd be infinitely better in concert than pretty well anyone else, apart from Springsteen. It'll be my 11th JB gig in all, and the 7th time I've seen him at the RAH.

Bit of travel advice needed please...Kraftwerk on Weds at Royal Albert Hall...Need to be back home as quickly as possible as work at 6am next day....

Any local station where I can leave my car nearby or best bet to go back to Brighton & get late bus...I'm in Peacehaven...cheers

You could park at Haywards Heath and train from there. Have done that a few times and more trains run there than to Brighton. Enjoy the show. It was outstanding at the centre but guess Albert Hall even more so.

I would endorse this advice. i do this regularly for London gigs where I'm not bothered about drinking and do the same when England play at Wembley in the evening.

A wonderful cacophony at the rather quaint Brewhouse in East London last night. They play the Green Door Store on Sunday.

Anyone else going to Elbow at Bedgebury Pinetum tonight? Seen them a few times and I haven't looked forward to a gig more for a long time, beautiful venue for such a band...

Reading all these leaves me pining for the days when it was easy for me to do gig going . Fond memories of Lizzy , Rainbow, Elton John, Quo, Slade, Madness (superb live although not my fave style) Paul Weller and others at the Centre, plus more "mature" stuff such as Van the Man and Dylan. Other gigs in London including the big one at Earls Court - The Boss when the E-Street band were intact - mind duly blown. Last gig was over 2 years ago, Bellowhead at T.Wells - they were good. Longing to be the compulsory "old bloke at a rock gig" again before too long!
