Speaking of Steve Gunn, I have a couple of tickets going spare, and cheaper than face value.
Ben Caplan and the senior smokers tonite at sixky mikes. Awsome. As always.
And it's Preoccupations and Cold Pumas at The Haunt tomorrow.
Steve Gunn on Saturday, Anais Mitchell on Sunday, Richard Youngs on Monday & The Pop Group next Tuesday.
Gee.
Gig 2 of my 4-gigs-and-a-festival-in-November program was John Grant. As lovely as ever.
The support were called Arc Iris and musically and visually are best described as Bjork does prog-rock; avant-garde, time changes, crazy outfits and gold capes. Quite bizarre but in a nice way.
Something to look forwards to in January. The Blue Aeroplanes are at Patterns on Sat 28th.
Nice.
Preoccupations were an absolute delight last week as I'm sure anyone who was there will attest.
I was delighted that they closed with 'Death.' It went down a little something like this;

Did not manage this one. Did they play any Fall covers as they have in the past?
No Fall this time.

Julia Holter last night smashed it again. I'd have liked to have heard a little more viola but you can't have everything eh.
It wasn't quite as amazing as the Spratelys Japs evening on Saturday but it's unfair to compare with so much love in the room at the very sold out GDS. This was their only ever gig so far, only Jo Sprately is left of the original line-up, now made up of Heavy Lamb (her son, Jesse), Crayola Lectern and Clowwns. And Tim was in the room to witness and join the love-in.
If you're unaware of the one off (so far) 1999 LP by Spratelys Japs have some of this.
