Thank God Glastonbury think more carefully about who they partner up with!

Although I do question their association with that cider bus. I have never ever been quite the same after a day on that stuff.

I went to see Khanate on Tuesday night. I have to say it was one of the most brutal, intense and loud shows I have been to in a long time. Clip below give you an insight but live it is something else. Crowd was a strange mix of people, different ages, metallers, hipsters, ordinary boring looking folk. I was stood in the second row, intense.

Went to see the delightful Rianne Downey at the Hope & Ruin Tuesday. A simply wonderful performer with a hell of a country voice.

Next up will be Brighton's own dystopian post-metal sensations Tribe of Ghosts at the Green Door on May 4th.

I'm not doing the Great Escape this year but was unaware of the boycott, a very interesting story. This will only be the second TGE that I have missed since its inception but it's purely a burn out decision. I fancy doing some more Brighton Festival stuff this year just to change things up for me.

Funnily enough this will be also be the second year I wont be going to The Great Escape. I know its a new music thing but in the past you would get a few known acts thrown into the mix and some really decent looking Dome shows. Not any more, and for the asking price of £100 you could go to 5 maybe 6 gigs wiht full sets and entry guaranteed.
Next up for me is Personal Trainer and Pom Poko tomorrow.

Just had a look at the surviving line up for The Great Escape and the only act that I've heard of is 'King Hannah'.

Like them a lot, got the album. I'd happily go and see them in their own right, as long as I could sit down.

They are Felix and Hugo White from The Maccabees and their brother Jamie, along with a drummer. I’ve seen them twice - not earth-shatteringly brilliant, but they’re good performers and put on a good show. I am going to this.

Went to see an Irish post-rock band last night called A Burial at Sea. Never heard of them before, a mate is really into this sort of music and took me. Very enjoyable evening in a DIY 'art space' over looking the river. I particularly like the trumpet player, added a nice dimension to the sound.

Have decided to finally get off my arse and go to some gigs. Went to see the Orielles last monday in the Komedia, with a very Third album heavy set, which sounded very good live, a very intimate set which was very decent. Was also was supported by Thick Drizzle (the guitarist out of Dry Cleaning), which was pleasant enough, which descended into a rant about someone on ebay who sold him some faulty equipment that was playing up, very funny. I'm off to see Shame on Thursday, supported by Cola and PVA which is a top quality line-up at the garage in Islington. I'm going to try pick up a ticket for one of the Magic Gang farewell shows the following thursday which is a throwback to when I was 18. Going to see Bodega as well on Monday 28th, which should be another decent one.

Saw English Teacher last week at a sold out C2. They did an album signing acoustic set at resident which I also went to a few weeks earlier- enjoyable if slightly awkward in places but this was the real thing and did not disappoint. Most of the album played and then back on stage for a blistering version of LCD's New York I Love You. I forget the name of the support. They were also very good and hard to categorise. I was thinking The Fall/ Joy Division to start with but then we went into 1970s English Folk territory as female vocals took over. It was the first night and they had got their timings wrong which meant the set was cut short just after a third different lead took over on the mike and was told to stop after 2 minutes. I expect they will have sorted this out now. I also saw Pom Poko for the third time, the new tracks sounded very promising and not too different to what we are used to. Highlight was when all of Personal Trainer joined her/them on stage for the final track- an extended version of If You Want Me To Stay.

Its fun to read what everyone has been up and has got planned ahead. Varied, interesting and inspiring. For me I have (British)Sea Power in Lewes and then the following night in Brighton. Goat Girl and Confidence Men in June.

How was it? Love her voice. I have a number of her songs on my country playlist. I just watched her Apple Music Live session which was excellent.

She was fantastic, one of the best live vocals I have heard. Played song after song with little waffle. Really enjoyed it.

Caught Tom Vek at the Black Lion last night who have a pretty strong line up of free shows again today. Bernard Butler also played yesterday. Worth a look.

Vek was superb.

Plenty going on today, will head to Mr Bongo who have Luke Una, Damien Harris on. All day 1-8. Will be great in this weather
