Could well be wrong but I think they played Chalk a couple of weeks ago. They are really good live
Yeah, you’re right. Got all my dates jumbled. Oh well!

Kiwunika was excellent tonight. Probably the best actual singer I've seen, though possibly beaten by one of the backing singers

It was. I wasn't persuaded by a couple of the songs but, given they've had little more than three months to start again from scratch, overall it was quite extraordinary. Not entirely convinced by the sax player's singing and second song. Whereas the keyboard player has a stunning, classical voice and, while I wasn't taken by the first song she sang, the second was epic. The bass player was brilliant, and was very much the one that channelled Isaac into the new iteration:
"Look at what we did together,
BCNR friends forever."
Difficult to disagree with that, especially the sax-player-as-singer bit.
But in general, the mild negatives meant that the general positivity, and the feeling that we were witnessing an important band, stood out even more.
Lovely gig.
Definitely agree with that, ALTHOUGH, while I was entering the building, I did see Isaac in the smoking area, so he’s still obviously very supportive. I also saw Geordie Greep of Black Midi after the gig. Fantastic band, a real shame, that we will not see the new album live again, because it’s still my album of the year.

Lamb playing Chalk in June as a Glastonbury warm-up.
Love a bit of Lou Rhodes me.
Saw Warpaint in London this week. As fantastic as ever, but didn't play two of their most-loved tracks, Elephants and Undertow. Grrr!
Got me thinking about set length and the fact that you don't know what you're gonna get when booking. Warpaint's gig was about HALF the length of set from The Cure.
Just the three hours of your time they ate into this week then
It was a stunning gig. And, I'm sure there will be a few detractors to this, the Brighton Centre played its part: the sound is brilliant, much better than the Dome. I've seen him four times now (twice at festivals), and that was comfortably the best. You're right about the singing too.
Saw Porridge Radio play an instore last night. In fact I saw very little of them as ended up stuck at the back of Resident and no room to move. Great sound considering the location and they played for almost an hour. It was great hearing latest album tracks and a few from the last album. If anyone is thinking about seeing them then they are playing in Hove early November.
Next up for me- Parquet Courts

You might just have been standing next to me then. They're great. I'm listening to the new record now, and it's sounding mighty fine.
In other news, I've just managed to bag three tickets to see The Smile at the Roundhouse. There were a few more available but, if you're interested, get in quick.
They were really on it last night I thought, a much fuller sound than the last two albums. Really enjoying this album.
I have Tim Burgess the night before Parquet Courts, and I am unfortunately away next week when Automatic play the green door store. I saw them just before the 1st pandemic at the Hope and Ruin, so annoying I will miss this one, hopefully they tour again soon.

Funny to think we were all in the same spot this time last night. Not listened to any of The Smile album- reviews saying it’s more or less Radiohead except by name. I did have tickets for Thom Yorke at the centre last June but that was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic. Disappointed it wasn’t merely postponed.
