Had tickets for the Slaves in London on Friday but now been cancels due to the Drummers/vocalist doing his shoulder in.
But looking forward to meeting up with the boys from the Sex Pistols Experience at the Hope on Saturday night.

So Mutations then.

Saturday wasn't as bad as I feared. The Bohicas are a pretty bog standard rock band, they looked like they were having fun though, BRNS were a really pleasant surprise, Alt-J esque polite but thoughtful indie. They had a few tricks up their sleeves. Le Galaxie's synthrock was superb, they turned Sticky Mike's into a dancing sweaty mess, which is a fair achievement at 5pm.

Didn't see a huge amount of Chelsea Wolfe due to refuelling but what I did see I found a bit dull. Josh T Pearson who I've always found hard work in his solo guise was absolutely superb, his sound filled the high ceiling at All Saints Church perfectly. Christopher Owens was a bad joke, I think and I was one of the many that left well in advance of the end of the set. That man needs his band back.

Merlin Tonto suffered from some malfunctioning equipment and it took them 20 minutes or so to get into their stride. Once they did the were good but not quite at the height of their powers. The Ought booking at Green Door Store always looked it was going to be busy and so it transpired. Personally, I think they are one of the best new bands in the world right now - Talking Heads meets The Fall, just a shame that everyone who wanted to see them didn't get to. Blanck Mass' set at The Haunt was outrageously good, he opened up with a new one that sounded like Dan Avery and then got into full sonic armageddon mode. I'm a big fan of slow and heavy but I didn't really get on with Om, found their set quite boring and should have gone to see Jane Weaver. Lightning Bolt are a good idea for about 30 minutes but as technically proficient and brutal as they are it all starts to merge into one after a while. I knew METZ were a quality live act, having seen them a couple of times at smaller venues on their first record but I wasn't prepared for the fearsome noise they managed to crank out of The Concorde's soundsystem, absolutely outstanding. Just don't mention N*****a.

By the time I got to the Patterns show, my judgement had been seriously impaired. I remember enjoying Tourist, think I ended up leaving Talabot/ Vynehall B2B to get a burger.

Is it possible to have had a lot of fun but overall feel a little short-changed?

Think you'll need to make the most of Motorhead - I have a feeling that this could be their last tour with Lemmy's continuing health issues. I just hope he releases that solo album before he shuffles off to the underworld.

Gig was postponed until next week although it was Phil this time.

Slayer and Anthrax in Brixton on Monday night and Anthrax at the Concorde 2 last night.Needless to say, I am deaf battered and bruised today. But bloody hell, what a couple of amazing gigs, especially Anthrax in the tiny Concorde.

Did you recognise him? or was he very busy announcing him self to everyone?

I recognised him. He made full use of the BA lounge and sat in business class; rock and roll. To be fair he kept himself to himself, didn't draw any attention to himself, and was with a lady.

I'd like to add that I was in economy #socialist. I overheard him ask where the lounge was as he was stood next to me.

Two different people I know have both commented how awesome Anthrax was last night.

That will be great. Enjoy. Entrancing.

Entrancing indeed. They were superb. They played for over 90 mins, including two encores, and managed about 6 songs I think. It was difficult to see much as the small smokey semi-derelict room was pumped full of dry ice (and fag-smoke) for long periods. They have a penchant for blue lights and are certainly no stranger to Neu. Crowd really got into it, at times it was more a happening than a gig. If you get a chance to see this lot do it.

The setlist for The Concorde gig looked rather good, I must say.

Wow, sounds great.

I did have the chance to see them this summer, but rather stupidly chose another option. next time.

My 2nd favourite Brighton promoter Dictionary Pudding's pulled a few rabbits out of hats again for next year.

Probably the best live band in the world that you can see for a tenner at The Hope - The Ex

https://www.facebook.com/events/809081699203060/

And Lee Perry doing 'Super Ape'

Thanks for this. I've missed The Ex for various reasons when they've played here recently; it's time to stop that. Not so sure I'll bother with Perry, as much as that's a cracking album.

I might even follow them around a bit when on this tour. I'm seeing them in Brighton and the Stewart Lee ATP, wouldn't mind catching a London show as well, I hear they're playing Reading as well.

The video below is when they toured with Matt Gustaffson's brass band back in 2010 but they're forever collaborating with the weird and wonderful. I'm sure they'll have some thing in store for us in April.

For sheer joy this one is pretty hard to beat.
