When packed 1 of our dogs refused to get in the car.
When we finally got him, he spent the journey from A/side to Kendal staring out of the back window. (He always looks forward)
The moment we got on the motorway and he could no longer see the mountains he turned around, huffed, and went to sleep standing up!.

If anyone wants to take a Retriever with them, they are more than welcome, he will love you for ever.

I was thinking of taking my Golden Retriever , just me and Harold. The Derwentwater Hotel will let you keep your Dog in the room with you. I plan to go Sept/Oct if I can. I think he would love it and as he is coming to the tail end of this lifespan I have always wanted to go on holiday with my old mate.

A lot of the inns and hotels are geared up for walkers and dogs are welcome in many places. Dogs love The Lakes.

Has anyone made it to The Mortal Man, Trolbeck (I think), up and over from the right of Ambleside.
Great walk, cracking pub, excellent lunch, then back into Ambleside for tea, and an apple pie.

My favourite place in the Lake District is Langdale.

Check out the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel. Old Peculier on tap and hearty meals. Mountains all around with excellent walking and climbing right from the doorstep.

I don't think I've ever stayed in any of the towns, and have always camped. It's best experienced as a wilderness.

Other top areas are Patterdale (Ullswater is a fantastic lake), Borrowdale and Wasdale, though the latter is a very long drive in and out.

We're taking the kids to Borrowdale for New Year and are booked into the Scafell Hotel for New Year's Eve. I can't wait as I've not been up there for too long now.

It is stunning. I feel like switching my computer off, waving goodbye to my colleagues and yomping up there now.

Another beautiful Lakeland view. Not sure of location but somewhere between Coniston village and the summit of the Old Man. Probably somewhere just above the Coppermines.

I want to post some lake district view photos, but traditionally every time I do they are massive.
Any idiot proof tips to make the 'normal' sized, so I don't wreck this thread.

Bassenthwaite is the only man made lake all the others are natural.

I had a few days in Seatoller near Keswick earlier this month. Very quiet but nice local walks.

Went up Haystacks near Buttermere which is nice but generally I like Keswick as plenty to do and lots of nearby place to go Fell walking, Cat Bells, Causey Pike etc. which are nice and gentle and quite scenic.
