I see the sheets on this thread drying almost word by word.
How about letting peope get on with the sensible discussion we are having. Instead of chipping in with comments designed to cause arguments.

You’re a moderator. It would be nice to see you take the higher ground in some discussions, for the sake of harmony.

That’s not a personal attack, I like the vast majority of your input here. But maybe not stir the pot on this one? It’s a very rare civilised political debate on NSC 🤣

Budget thread is decent because budget is decent. I could bounce any number of comments on here claiming it wouldn't be, which is exactly what would happen on a football thread, but I'm sure people can find them for themselves. I've got work to do and a pub and match to get to.

Enjoy the match and have a pint for me, I’m on shift later 😔

Seems like the budget was a lot 'fairer' than many predicted.

Can we now get back to discussing clothing and Taylor Swift please?

Spot on.

Problem is we have a Chancellor who has never run a business, let alone started one, reporting to a PM who has never run a business, being advised by Civil Servants who've never run a business.
I don't think you have needed to run a business or started one, to know that increases in the minimum wage, employers national insurance rates, and increases in CGT would impact inflation, job opportunities and investment, just an understanding of economics would tell you.

I think the budget "noise" rather demonstrates what I mentioned previously about how being Labour in Government is to do politics in difficult mode, the way the press went to town on a bunch of leaks (many of which turned out to be utter bollox) and some outright guessing made many think the whole world was going to cave in today, whereas in reality nothing of the sort has happened

But we do have a chancellor who obtained a philospy, politics and economics degree from Oxford, a Masters from LSE and worked at the BoE. I reckon she knows a thing or two, both thererical and practical, about finance.

you would think so. However I’ve heard rumours that she skived off most days.

Well, I don't know all the in's and out's and what it means for everyone, but at least this budget seems to be better then Liz Trust's mini budget that destroyed the country and every ones mortgage went through the roof. I have just checked what was a happening on the BBC and the world still seems to be intact, which comes as quite a surprise, since I have been hearing that the budget of doom would destroy us all.

Look on the bright side. If employees' NIC had been increased, it would have affected private sector and public sector employees alike. By putting on employer's NIC, only private sector employees will suffer; public sector workers will be unaffected.
I've pointed out before that this isn't quite correct. Local Authorities will have to pay the extra NI. They don't get automatic increased funds from central government to pay for it. So, they way they will manage increased costs is to reduce staffing.
One thing that shows how governments in general miss the point. She says that she will appoint thousands of new house planning officers to help build new homes. doesn't she realise that housing planning officers function is to stop house building? She would get far better results by sacking thousands of planning officers and making them concentrate on only the most egregious.
This isn't true either. The vast majority of planning applications get passed. The job of planning officers is to ensure that they fit and meet the requirements and so on. There are hundreds and hundreds of developments that have been given permission by planning officers that have not been built.

I’ve got a son who graduated earlier this year with a First in Business and Management and has missed his bus to his new job twice this week 😉

The leaks were from Labour, testing reactions. According to BBC journalists in recent days. Not the first government to do that.

Congratulations on his first and just as importantly his job. Maybe advise him to buy a bicycle with his first pay packet?

Probably nowhere near as bad as when the little note was left by Labour
I mean, do people still think that was a serious note? If it helps, watch The Big Short, Margin Call or other documentaries on the subject of the Global Financial Crash. You might find interesting, and if not Margot Robbie is in the Big Short.

I'm sure she does - and I think the budget was a good one - I'd actually have increased fuel duty to pay for keeping the £2 bus fare, more attention to social care,- but I think my point stands when it comes to experience in business/start ups.
