Win or lose, and it's only for a place on the ballot paper, this is indeed a spectacular shambles... it is a LOSE / LOSE situation... brilliant
and in the face of so many open goals it is a truly remarkable effort!
It's really nothing to be happy about if you believe in the type of democracy we have in this country. It is vital to have a strong opposition, an opposition that scares the government. Hopefully with Jeremy not on the ballot Labour will be able to provide this in time.

As I put on your FB page, it was the only decision they could make. It would have split the party otherwise. Labour to be led by Corbyn until the next GE where his Labour Party will get trounced. Then Labour can begin to purge its party of the Trotskyites and entryists and make it electable again.

Very sad if that does happen. It would really only have been beneficial if Leadsom or Gove had secured the Tory leadership as that would have resulted in a similar schism and then there was talk of a centrist party emerging from Labour and Tories.
Edit - There was an interesting poll of Union members by YouGov over the last few days about Corbyn's leadership and the results don't automatically hint at a Corbyn win, at least from the Union sides. This is one question but Twitter has quite a few surprisingly negative results from the poll.

Corbyn and his like have been trying to take over the party since the 80s. Apart from Attlee's post war government (arguably), the Labour Party has only ever been trusted by the electorate when it has presented itself as a 'safe', centrist party. If the majority of the PLP split to form a centrist party that your traditional labour voter and your middle class conscience voters can identify with, then it will completely marginalise the hard left and the 'Labour' party will become nothing more than a protest movement full of students, unionists and Ernest, which will remain (as it is now) completely unelectable.
