Sorry one more thing. What is a religious scholar ? Are they trained as to where their jurisdiction begins and ends. I am sure there are varying quality of organisation and judgement - but who guards the guards ?

United Kingdom law. The issue is not the existence of these courts, but whether they contravene UK law - ie there is nothing wrong with them as long as the participants are willing and they do not break the law of the land.

Re your point where participants are not willing, then steps must be put in place where those that have been forced into something against their will can freely and easily report the matter to the police - that is not something that is unique to the Muslim community.

Those two things are different. Or woukd you say South american catholics have the same culture as say german catholics? And anyway the culture of a country should reflect the people of the country and so will change over tlime. It is not a static thing. So no i am still not bothered.
Whoever lives here makes up tye counties culture and it should reflect the people, as long as it does there is no problem.

Well from my own experience where you have a town, where the majority of people follow Islam, the shops and obviously area change to reflect this.

Like a lot other people, I'm not happy with the way things are going, problems in this country, problems in other countries, patterns of migration, can I not be worried and wonder where this country might be heading.
Roll back 15-20 years ago, this country was running perfectly well without any of this added rubbish.

No it wasn't. 20 years ago this country was blindly careering towards the worst economic crash in a hundred years.

A religious scholar is someone who studies the text, meaning and interpretation of religious teachings... A vicar, a Rabbi, An Iman... It this context it would be an Iman who has studied Sharia Law pretty much all his life. He will understand the absolute written word, its literal meaning and its interpretation through thousands of fatwahs that have been debated and agreed.

The jurisdiction is only limited by what people bring to them to adjudicate on... What do think these courts are used for? This isn't a replacement for the European Court of Human Rights... these are 'contractual' disputes between individuals.

The courts work almost identically to a magistrates court. There is a committee of scholars who will listen to both sides of the argument and pass a judgement they believe is fair and in keeping with the principles of Sharia Law. Sharia Law is written down, it is documented, it's not just some bloke making it up as he goes along. If one Scholar is offering biased judgements he is removed by his peers, if a whole court is biased, people stop using it and senior Imans will step in.

There is 800 years of jurisprudence behind these courts, its not some kangaroo affair run by Uncle Bob in someone's back room - these men have studied for decades to sit in a court.

To put it into context, Sharia Law has existed roughly the same length of time that a single legal system has applied to England and Wales. There is a lot of organisation behind this, they take it very seriously indeed. A lot of people have worked very hard to make sure its right and works, exactly the same amount of effort which has gone into our legal system.

Britain is in denial. There is no real public debate on a historic event that is transforming the country. Mention of it occasionally surfaces in the media, but the mainstream political class never openly discuss it.
What is that historic event? By the year 2050, in a mere 36 years, Britain will be a majority Muslim nation.
This projection is based on reasonably good data. Between 2004 and 2008, the Muslim population of the UK grew at an annual rate of 6.7 percent, making Muslims 4 percent of the population in 2008. Extrapolating from those figures would mean that the Muslim population in 2020 would be 8 percent, 15 percent in 2030, 28 percent in 2040 and finally, in 2050, the Muslim population of the UK would exceed 50 percent of the total population.
Would you be happy with this??

so what!

The muslims I know all seem pretty decent and an improvement on some of the christians I know. Can't see it having a massive issue on my day to day life if we were a country with a majorty population made up of muslims. Doubt it very much tho.......

Sharia Law dates back about 800 years. This isn't new, it isn't rubbish and Sharia Courts have been in this country since the first two British Muslims argued over something and went to their Iman for help.

I can't see the big deal. Unless NSC is full of practicing Chritians that feel threatened about their right to practice their relegion in 2051

This is specious rubbish. In Malaya for example Sharia Law specificly applies to muslims handed down by the equivelant upper house to their parliament. Also any native Malay is by law a muslim from birth. I doubt I have to go far to find it imposed on on beleivers, its far from the chummy little voluntary club you describe.
