I want a tried and tested manager with Championship experience, not a lot to ask is it?

Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed they have accepted the resignation of first-team manager Sami Hyypia.

Chairman Tony Bloom said, "Sami offered his resignation, and we reluctantly accepted earlier today.

"Sami has worked extremely hard since joining the club last summer. Despite some good performances, including most recently at Wolves, results haven't gone as well as we all had hoped and expected.

"Sami is an incredibly honourable man. He remains a hugely respected and very popular figure at our club. He has decided to step down for the benefit of the team and the club.

"We are all very disappointed, but we respect Sami’s decision and we all wish him well for the future."

In the interim, Nathan Jones, assistant manager, will take charge of the team for the Boxing Day fixture against Reading.

The club will offer no further comment at this stage.

I for one feel desperately sorry for Hyypia. Out of his depth to a degree, tactical naivety at times but thoroughly let down by the club and his players.

Anyone who thinks that this is the problem solved is delusional. A quick appointment is needed as well as astute investment in the squad.

Seems to have been let down in part by a. his own managerial abilities and b. the recruitment work done by the Club.

It's going to be a very interesting first interview from Hyppia post resignation. His career as a manager is in tatters so nice guy or not, I would expect a couple of references towards our recruitment system.

Let's hope so! We need someone close to events to call out the shortcomings with recruitment.

If only Gus could open up! Feel like us fans are treated like mushrooms by the club on occasion.

Ok, he's not a great manager, but he's clearly a good man, and I for one respect him.

I hope he finds another job in football, just clearly not as a manager.

If he has gone, without any sort of compensation, then Hyypia certainly goes with my best wishes. Honestly, as a humble fan, I really mean that. Sometimes things just don't work out, and falling on your sword when that happens is entirely honourable.

Sadly though, there appears nothing honourable about that Burke moron, or Barber - collectively responsible for an appalling summer which is why we're in this mess. It will be shameful if either of them collects anything like their enormous gross pay figures of last year.

If the club leave Jones in charge for the rest of the season, for the first time they can say bye bye to my season ticket renewal money. If they get some experienced manager in and we still go down I will still renew. If I feel the club is trying its best to sort out this mess they will get my full support what ever happens in the league. If they piss about they can naff off.

Good on him - shame it didn't work out - no hard feelings. If we don't make any changes to the squad and the new guy gets us winning then we know it was Sami's fault.

You are 100% correct and I am pretty sure that nobody believes this is problem solved. Far from it. Burke should now fall on his sword. A competent manager with a great support staff playing an attractive yet adaptable brand of football. That man picks his players to buy/loan.

A re-appraisal by Bloom (not Barber) of how the club is interacting with the fans to repair the disconnect.
